Invitation to Serve Day 2013

Serve Day 2013 is just around the corner, and we are inviting you to be involved. As an employee at the Portland Center, we hope that you have heard of Serve Day and what it is all about. Even still, please take a few moments to read about our purpose and passion for this day.

  • What is Serve Day? On the second Wednesday of each school year, the George Fox campus closes and all employees and students go out into Newberg and the surrounding areas to help at specific service sites. This year it will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
  • Our Goals: Ultimately, we want to model a Christ-centered community and believe through service we can do that. We hope that Serve Day will be the beginning of lasting relationships between the Newberg and George Fox communities.
  • Who: In past Serve Days we typically serve at about 80 sites. These include nonprofit organizations, schools, churches and individual homes.
  • How: Projects can range from spending time with residents at care homes, visiting with troubled youth, collecting cans for a food drive, and much more.
  • When: Wednesday, Sept. 11. Our groups of volunteers will assemble at 8:30 a.m. to meet a representative from the organization. The starting time on the project will be determined by how long it takes the group to get to the site. We will finish the Serve Day with a celebration on our campus at 4 p.m.

Since you are not a Newberg employee, this day is completely optional. If you would like to be a part of this year’s Serve Day, we would love to have you. Please check with your supervisor and then e-mail serveday@georgefox.edu to let us know if you are going to participate so we can assign you to a location.

Thank you!
