University hosts more than 500 students for annual Choral Conductor’s Symposium

George Fox will host the school’s seventh annual Choral Conductor’s Symposium in Bauman Auditorium this Saturday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 500 hundred students from eight local high schools, and their directors, will perform a prepared program and be critiqued by Rodney Eichenberger, a world-renowned choral director.

Following their performances, the groups will attend clinics in which the directors and choirs will work one-on-one with George Fox University professors Brent Weaver, who will work on improving choirs’ sight-reading skills, and vocal instructor Cynthia McGladrey, who will address the issue of teaching proper singing technique in choir rehearsal.

The GFU Concert Choir will perform at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions, at 11:20 a.m. and 4:20 p.m., respectively. The Newberg choir is scheduled to perform from 10:35 to 11:15 a.m. All are invited to attend the concert free of charge.
