Memorial service planned for former George Fox first lady Linda Stevens
The university community is invited to a memorial service for Linda Stevens, wife of former George Fox University President Edward Stevens, from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Newberg Historic Chapel, 611 N. Main St., in Newberg.
Linda Elaine (Loewenstein) Stevens died Sept. 30, in Mesa, Ariz. She was 69.
Born in Lincoln, Neb., on June 27, 1942, Linda grew up in the small farm town of Shelton, Neb. While at Nebraska Wesleyan University, she met Ed Stevens, whom she married in June of 1962. In 1983, she became George Fox’s first lady with Ed Stevens’ selection at the school’s 10th president – a position he held until poor health caused him to relinquish office in 1997. He died in 1998 after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Following her husband’s death, Linda relocated to the couple’s second home in Arizona, where her sister and mother lived and oldest daughter followed.
Linda is survived by Carla and James Jetton and their children – Jaron (10) and Ed (5) – and Kathy and Joel Kassebaum and their children – Camille (16), Luke (13) and Grace (10).
