All are invited to this Saturday’s Shalom Summit

November 11th, 2025

  • D’Metri Mattocks-Lopez: “Let Hope Arise”
  • Stories of hope and crafting “Shalom Statements” together
  • Rev. Joel Sommer: “Survive. Thrive. Resist.”
  • Contemplative practices like silence, Sabbath, and Scripture to help justice seekers stay grounded
  • Dr. Sadara Shine: “Justice Flows Where Prayer Intercedes”

We’ll also hear from voices shaping conversations on justice, art, and hope:

Transportation service is available for holidays and the semester break

November 11th, 2025

Hillsboro Airporter is a preferred service to provide a shuttle service to Portland International Airport for the semester break.

Students and families will be expected to work directly with Hillsboro Airporter (or any other service) to reserve their spot. If you make your reservations with others more than 24 hours in advance, Hillsboro Airporter may be able to group students together to possibly save money.

Students can explore alternative transportation by reaching out to those in their living area or connecting with classmates. Google is also a great resource for finding additional choices.

Wellness Wednesday: The importance of preventative care

November 11th, 2025

Happy Wellness Wednesday! Today, let’s talk about the most powerful tool you have for your long-term health: preventive care. It’s more than just an appointment; it’s your opportunity to get a clear picture of your well-being and gain true peace of mind.

Here’s why that’s so important: Many serious health conditions, like high blood pressure or high cholesterol, can develop for years with no symptoms at all. Preventive care helps you find these silent risks – or even better, confirm all the great things you’re doing for your health. Catching a potential issue early means it’s far easier, and less expensive, to manage, allowing you to stay focused on living your healthiest, most vibrant life.

These simple steps are your key to staying well all year long. The best approach to staying healthy for life is to prevent illness from ever beginning, and your provider can advise you on what’s best for you.

For you and your dependents, most of these essential preventive services are covered in full when you visit in-network providers. Use this comprehensive list to see what’s available and get this important conversation started at your next appointment.

Join a Community Conversation: Do cities need the National Guard?

November 10th, 2025

In times of polarization, it can be hard to know the truth about controversial issues – even when we live a short drive from a center of visible controversy.

At 7 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday), George Fox students, employees, and Newberg and Dundee community members will gather in Canyon Commons to discuss unrest in major American cities and the deployment of National Guard units there.

Participants will sit at tables with a few others – some of whom they may not know – and will be asked to listen closely enough to summarize another person’s views before sharing their own. The emphasis will be on listening and discovering areas of common ground.

Community Conversations is co-sponsored by Newberg/Dundee United as Neighbors and the George Fox University Civility Project. Everyone is invited to join the conversation. For more information, contact Ron Mock at civility@georgefox.edu.
