The Financial Wellness Center is here to help you feel empowered and secure in your financial wellness. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and resources you need to feel educated in your financial decisions.

Whether you’re actively making financial choices or getting ready to repay loans after graduation, we want to help you feel confident in how to navigate your unique situation.

Need help writing a paper, staying on top of your assignments, or preparing for tests? Come to the Portland Writing Center (PWC), where you will find students helping students. Through one-on-one and group consultations, trained peer consultants can help you become a better reader, writer and learner.

The intercultural life and spiritual life offices invite the entire George Fox community to join us at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.) for the 12th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17.

We will not only celebrate the life, faith and work of Dr. King, but also all of those whom his legacy still represents, including past, present and future generations!

Tai Harden-Moore will serve as keynote speaker, and the Larhonda Steele Band will be the musical guest. The emcees will be Zinabu Czarnecki and Bryce Coefield.

The event is free, but the live audience will be capped at 200 attendees. Pre-registration and either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test will be required within 48 hours for all attendees 12 and up.

The event will also be livestreamed, so everyone is welcome to join us through the livestream if unable to join in person. The link to RSVP and the livestream broadcast can be found here. Please RSVP for all members in your family/group for in-person attendance.

These details include meeting times and location, teaching modality, enrollment limit and waitlist numbers, course description, instructor info, and textbook listings (click the book icon after clicking on a course to expand its info).

In compliance with the university’s excess funds “refund” policies, the Office of Student Accounts will start initiating credits to students who are signed up for Student Account Direct Deposit (DD) beginning the week of Jan. 10. If you haven’t set up DD yet, please follow these simple instructions to do so now.

Enrollment in DD is mandatory at George Fox. When not completed, paper checks are required, and this causes an unavoidable delay. (Best guess, paper checks will be mailed the week of Jan. 17 at the earliest.)

Most students have a payment that is due today, Jan. 3, 2022. Please be aware that pending financial aid (if ready to disburse) will be applied to the student account this morning.

There is a short period of time in which the aid disbursement might have been initiated but not yet applied to charges. To avoid confusion, please consider waiting until after noon to make your payment in MyGeorgeFox.

If you know how much to pay, you can pay at any time by entering the correct amount into the payment screen online. Contact us at studentaccounts@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.

To allow time for processing mailed-in or in-person payments prior to the campus holiday break, please be sure your payment reaches our student accounts Newberg office by 3 p.m. tomorrow (Dec. 22).

After that, your payment will be held and transacted when we reopen on Jan. 3, 2022. Payments online may be transacted 24/7 while offices are closed.

Learning Support Services is recruiting two or three graduate students to work as academic mentors on the Newberg campus during the spring 2022 semester.

Academic mentors generally have six to eight one-on-one meetings with students each week; the position pays current Oregon minimum wage. Students can find more details and application information on the HandShake position posting. The position is open to any George Fox graduate student. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

Past academic mentors have commented on how much they grew through the experience, especially through their one-on-one sessions with high-risk students. The role is not a formal counseling role, but has similarities that can be especially helpful for graduate students who will be entering helping professions.

Staff may have two complimentary tickets for any night. Students and employees also are invited to attend a formal dress rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday free of charge, for which there will be general seating (please be sure to use social distancing when possible).

Tickets for the Thursday concert are available from Kathy Harris in Ross 101 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., until 700 seats are given away. Masks must be worn to each performance (no exceptions).

Tickets for the Friday through Sunday concerts are available online at this link. The system automatically puts a gray (social distance) seat between each selection, so select your spots and don’t space them out. For those who can’t attend in person, a livestream of Sunday’s concert is available for purchase here.

Poinsettias ($10) and Christmas trees ($20) will be for sale after the last concert on Sunday (cash and checks only).
