Invisible Children film, talk-back session scheduled Tuesday

This Tuesday, Nov. 16, the Center for Peace and Justice and Center for Global Studies will co-host an event with Invisible Children as part of their “Face to Face” tour. The evening will include a showing of the 40-minute film Go!, which documents three American students who traveled to Uganda, met students their age, and through these relationships saw their lives changed.

In addition, two Ugandans, James and Robert, who have lived through the war and have been involved with Invisible Children’s partner school program, will share their stories and address ways in which students can respond and participate in advocating on behalf of northern Uganda’s children. This will include a talk-back session with a question-and-answer time following the film.

Mail service will be limited on Veterans Day

There will be limited mail service on Thursday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.

The details:

  • Mail Services will be open during normal hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), but there will be no U.S. Mail service that day – no incoming or outgoing mail.
  • Other carriers such as UPS will be operational on their normal schedule.
  • George Fox University mail courier will be on normal schedule to the Portland and Salem centers.

World-renowned OT scholar speaks at seminary Nov. 15

George Fox Evangelical Seminary invites the university community to a free lecture featuring Dr. Erhard Gerstenberger, a world-renowned Old Testament scholar, at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the Portland Center’s Room 155.

Gerstenberger, a German theologian, has authored or edited 15 books and more than 100 articles on Old Testament studies, form criticism, Psalms and ritual studies, practical theology, feminist criticism and liberation theology. He will speak on “Old Testament Theologies and Pastoral Ministry” in the seminary’s Old Testament introduction class.

Monday forum features Jews, Christians and Muslims in conversation

This Monday, Nov. 8, is the last Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture of the semester. We will host five speakers who will speak about interfaith dialogue and initiatives. Our guests include Jews, Christians and Muslims involved in interfaith groups in the Portland area.

Sessions are scheduled from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Bruin Bookstore hosts Family Weekend sale Friday and Saturday

Panelists discuss Lausanne conference at forum Tuesday night

The university’s Center for Global Studies and Center for Peace and Justice are hosting a panel Tuesday, Nov. 2, related to the panelists’ participation at the Lausanne Movement’s Third Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town, South Africa, in October. Chapel credit is available for those students who attend.

Panel members include President Robin Baker, Sarita Gallagher (Religious Studies) and the university’s missional-practitioner-in-residence, David Chronic.

Harvard Divinity School rep recruiting students Wednesday

Jennifer Hollis, an admissions rep from Harvard Divinity School, will host an information session from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27. Online textbook annex closed

Tickets now available for fall theatre production, ‘Ion’

Tickets are now available for the university’s fall theatre production, Euripides’ Ion. The show is a world premiere of Paul D. Streufert’s translation of the Greek tragedy.

Show dates are Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6, and the following Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 11-14, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. each night with the exception of the Sunday, Nov. 14 show, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

All George Fox University employees receive one complimentary ticket. Students will be admitted free on both Thursdays. Your complimentary ticket is only available at the Box Office in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12.
