Every year, around Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, hundreds of thousands of people around the world send a message to someone they’ve never met. Letter writing has always been at the core of Amnesty International’s work, and 53 years of human rights activism show that letters really do have the power to change lives.
You can be a part of this, too. The George Fox chapter of Amnesty International is hosting a Write for Rights event at the Coffee Cottage in Newberg on Monday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Come for the whole time, or just a few minutes and write a letter to change a life.
Click here for more information on the event. Contact Jennifer Newman at newmanj11@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.
We hope to see you there!
In support of our Creation Care values, Human Resources will issue 2014 year-end W-2 forms online in “Self Service” for all employees. In order for the university to save the expense of purchasing, printing, stuffing into envelopes and delivering your form by campus mail, the law requires that you give your consent to receiving this form online. If you consented in the past, you do NOT need to do so again.
You can verify your consent status or give consent for the first time by following the steps below. It only takes about 30 seconds, so I encourage you to take care of it as soon as possible – perhaps right now? Here’s how:
You’ll receive a confirmation email of your decision shortly after completing this process. And just to be clear, you will only have to do this once – not every year.
Thanks very much. Let me know if you have any questions.
Katie Sol, Human Resources (ksol@georgefox.edu)

The Science Outreach Program aims to serve the greater community and promote an interest in science from a Christ-centered perspective. Our purpose is to help advance science education, raise the scientific consciousness of the community, and share resources of the George Fox University Science Department.
We have scientific equipment many elementary, middle and high schools do not own. Equipment loans are also available to the homeschooling community. If you need microscopes, dissecting tools, physics models or a variety of other teaching items, we can loan them to you and help enrich scientific learning among your students and family. Equipment is loaned out on a first come, first served basis for up to one week (seven days).
To borrow equipment, send your requests to scienceoutreach@georgefox.edu. Questions? Contact Elizabeth Licon at elicon@georgefox.edu.
Sherri Moore, the veterans coordinator for George Fox, will be on campus at the Portland Center Friday, Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment to meet with her, please email smoore@georgefox.edu or simply drop by the Student Accounts Office.
Winter is coming. Following is our process for announcing campus closure information. The provost will make the decision whether or not to close the Newberg campus, Portland Center and Salem site for daytime classes by 6:30 a.m. or 2:15 p.m. for evening classes. This applies to all days of the week, including Saturday. Decisions at the Redmond site will be made by the professor.
Major considerations are road conditions, ice, utility service disruption, and how long the severe weather or emergency is likely to last. To find out if a closure decision has been made when bad weather occurs:

TechTips Forum post: For people with Macintosh computers, our IT Mac-certified tech, Rich Bass, highly recommends that Mac users do not upgrade to Yosemite (OS 10.10) yet. There are reported issues of Wifi connectivity dropping for many users. The issue doesn’t affect everyone, but there are widespread reports across the web of Wifi issues. Apple will most likely release an update to fix this, but the update hasn’t come out yet.
If you have updated your Mac to Yosemite and are experiencing Wifi connectivity issues (or other problems) since upgrading, you can stop by IT and we can image your computer back to Mavericks (10.9).
