If you are curious about career opportunities or are currently looking for that next step after graduation, check out the Portland Career Fair sponsored by National Career Fairs. The event is free and will feature employers from a variety of industries and companies.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Red Lion Hotel on the River, located at 909 N. Hayden Island Dr., in Portland.

New bookstore operator has been selected

We are pleased to announce that George Fox University has chosen to partner with Follett Higher Education Group in operating our bookstore. This transition to operation by Follett will be completed by July. There will be more information to share on this transition in the coming weeks/months.

Before saying your goodbyes and hitting the highway there are a few payroll reminders …

  • First, please be sure to lock your time sheets. This will prevent any hold on your paycheck for a signature.
  • Second, be sure your address is up to date with mail services so your paycheck can find you.
  • Another great option is to set up direct deposit before you go, so your pay won’t be delayed by mail. Click this link for the direct deposit form.

Commencement activities planned this week

It’s commencement week at George Fox! The majority of graduate programs, including those at George Fox Evangelical Seminary, will host commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, at various locations. Details on when and where they will take place are available at this link.

One commencement ceremony for traditional undergraduates and Department of Professional Studies graduates will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 2:30 p.m. in Stoffer Family Stadium. For more information, visit this page.

Ken Beebe, a 1982 George Fox University graduate (BA, sociology) who has spent the past 21 years serving as executive director of Twin Rocks Friends Camp and Conference Center, will be Saturday’s commencement speaker.

Seminary’s Woodley speaks at Chehalem Cultural Center April 28

George Fox Evangelical Seminary’s Randy Woodley, distinguished professor of faith and culture, will present “Many Nations, One River: Exploring the History of Settlement in Oregon’s Willamette Valley through a Socio-cultural Lens (1812-1842)” as part of the Newberg Historical Society’s “The Native American Experience” series.

All are welcome to attend free of charge. The presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at the Chehalem Cultural Center, located at 415 E. Sheridan St., in Newberg.

George Fox University will host the annual Northwest Regional Conference of the Evangelical Missiological Society tomorrow (Saturday). The theme for this year is “Controversies in Mission.” Topics will be wide and varied, from women’s roles in missions to global partnerships, from Bible translation to ethics of business as mission. ​ This is a day-long Saturday event (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.); registration fee is $50, with students paying a much-reduced $15 for the day. All meetings will be in the Hoover Academic Building.

Come hear from C.S. Lewis expert tonight in Hoover 105

Don’t forget the lecture tonight (Thursday) by scholar Jason Lepojärvi, who will present “C.S. Lewis’s Famous Disagreement with Augustine on Love” at 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Lepojärvi is a junior research fellow in theology at St. Benet’s Hall, Oxford, and a former president of the Oxford C.S. Lewis Society. Born to a Canadian mother and a Finnish father, he studied theology and philosophy at the University of Helsinki. More details about him can be found here. The lecture is sponsored by the Office of the President and the William Penn Honors Program.

Do you know a high school student who may be interested in the William Penn Honors Program? An honors program reception will be held immediately following the lecture. Additionally, a special visit day event will be held on April 10 during Bruin Preview.
