The university community is invited to explore portions of the St. John’s Bible at a special presentation from 2:30 to 5 p.m. today (Friday) in the Stevens Center’s Duke Atrium. The project began in 1998 at Saint John’s Abbey and St. John’s University, which commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce a hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible.
Come see a work of art that unites an ancient Benedictine tradition with the technology and vision of today, illuminating the Word of God for a new millennium. The Gospels and Acts will be on display, along with several individual art pieces from the series.
In addition, Brad Neary, representative for the project, and Paul Anderson, professor of biblical studies at George Fox, will present short talks on topics related to the Bible and its artwork.

Peggy Fowler, former CEO of Portland General Electric Co. (PGE), will be on the university’s Newberg campus as part of the College of Business’ Executive in Residence Program. All are welcome to attend her presentation from 11 to 11:50 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Hoover 105. The title of her presentation is “Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Life Lessons from a Transformational Leader.”

“Passport Day” is just around the corner. Mark your calendars. The USPS will be on the Newberg campus Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 5-6, to process passport applications – both new applications and renewals. It will be offered in Cap and Gown A from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday.

The George Fox football team has its first two away games of the season scheduled on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. against Willamette University and on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1:30 p.m. against Linfield College.
Willamette University does not sell general admission tickets in advance, so you will need to purchase your tickets at the gate the day of the game. To purchase tickets in advance for the Linfield game, please visit this link.
Our next home football game is Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1:30 p.m. against the University of Puget Sound. Employees and students will be admitted with their ID cards; other fans can purchase tickets in advance here.

The university’s Annual Security Report is now available. This report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for the school. The policy statements address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security (for example, policies for responding to emergency situations).
Three years’ worth of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. Michael Ward, PhD, professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University and director of the C.S. Lewis Centre in Oxford, England, will visit the Newberg campus to present a lecture, “The Heavens are Telling the Glory of God: C.S. Lewis, Narnia and the Planets,” at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday), in Bauman Auditorium. There is no charge to attend.
Ward is a leading expert on the works of C.S. Lewis and the author of Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis. He is senior research fellow at Blackfriars Hall in the University of Oxford and co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis. He presented the BBC television documentary, The Narnia Code (2009). As an Anglican clergyman, he served as chaplain of St Peter’s College at the University of Oxford from 2009 to 2012 and as chaplain of Peterhouse at the University of Cambridge from 2004 to 2007.
The lecture is sponsored by the William Penn Honors Program. A reception immediately following the lecture will be held for those interested in learning more about the honors program.
