The George Fox University Program for Leadership & Formation is soliciting applications for departmental micro-grants that further our mission: “to unite the fragmenting purposes of learning (worldview, character formation, and vocation) by building organizational coherence around a Christ-centered framework of character formation (Head, Heart, and Hands) and the virtues of wisdom, moral courage, and neighbor love.”

We invite proposals of any amount between $250 and $2,000 that fulfill the following conditions:

• Furthers PLF mission by focusing on the development and formation of students’ Christian worldview, character, or sense of calling and vocation
• Demonstrates a connection to the formation framework of Head (Wisdom), Heart (Moral Courage), and Hands (Neighbor-Love)
• Is aligned with the following three PLF program commitments: (a) Christ-centered, (b) attention to the affective dimension of formation, and (c) focused on building communities/cohorts of formation
• Has a viable plan for assessment of program impact and, specifically, of student formation (selected applicants will have an opportunity to consult with a PLF research fellow to refine assessment plan).

Note: The term “department” is loosely understood to refer to any existing organizational unit that engages a particular group of students in an ongoing way (academic or co-curricular).

Experience Shakespeare’s madcap farce like never before in our breathless 80-minute production of The Comedy of Errors.

Performed in our beautiful outdoor amphitheater, this production features George Fox students, staff, alumni and community professionals. Enjoy an evening of hilarious slapstick humor as two sets of twins turn a Mediterranean town upside down through narrow escapes, mistaken identities, and an abundance of errors.

Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs for seating during the performance. One free ticket is available for each George Fox student (Wednesday or Thursday shows only) and staff member (any performance). Use your georgefox.edu email address when checking out online at the box office.

Shows run this Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 20-21; Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23-24; and Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 28-31. All shows begin at 8 p.m.

IT is wrapping up its used computer sale today (Friday). iMacs, MacBooks, PC laptops, desktops, and Chromebooks are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Service Desk in the Stevens Center.

• All computers are sold “as is.” The IT department does not provide support, maintenance or updates for these machines, and cannot guarantee manufacturer parts availability.
• Payment by debit or credit card in person is required at the time of purchase.

• All computers have been factory reset and are running the highest operating system compatible with their hardware. These devices are best suited for web browsing, streaming and applications that do not require a newer operating system.

The Office for Spiritual Life is looking for Life Group leaders for our fall 2025 Life Groups series (the weeks of Sept. 15 through Oct. 31). Life Groups are small groups of undergraduate students who meet together for prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Groups meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes.

This fall, our groups will be either in person or completely via Zoom. Groups led by a George Fox staff or faculty member will be SPIL-credit eligible in order to encourage students to engage in high-quality spiritual formation experiences that are participatory and offer ongoing community.

The beginning of next week, Newberg temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to high-90s. While we all love a beautiful summer day, high temperatures bring the risk of heat-related illnesses. Your safety is our top priority, so let’s make sure we’re all prepared.

To help everyone stay cool and healthy, please follow the university’s heat protocol:

• Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Drink water every 20 minutes, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
• Time Your Tasks Wisely. Schedule more strenuous work for the cooler parts of the day, like the morning.
• Seek Out the AC. If your building feels too warm, head to an air-conditioned space such as Canyon Commons, Klages, or the Murdock Library.
• Look Out for Each Other. Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., check on your fellow employees and classmates every hour or two. A quick check-in can make a big difference!
• Know the Symptoms. Familiarize yourself with the signs of heat-related illnesses. You can find more information here: Heat-Related Illness Symptoms.
