Volunteers needed for study on muscular performance and the period cycle

Sunday, March 26th, 2023

We are a group of exercise science students doing an anonymous study about muscular performance and the period cycle, because we want to know if muscular performance changes over the course of the menstrual cycle. If you get your period between now and the 10th of April we would love for you to be a part of our study.

You will be asked to do three tests a bench press, leg press, and push-ups (you can choose to do it from your knees or toes). There will be at least two sessions (no more than three). A session will take about 45 minutes, and we will coordinate with you to find the right time to do the tests.

You do not need to be an athlete or a super fit person because we are looking at the changes over the course of your period. It’s OK if you are not familiar with the gym or exercises because we will be there with you to walk you through them and answer your questions.

We accept anyone who menstruates (if you are taking hormonal contraceptives, you can still participate) and if you think you are going to be on your period during spring break and are within 45 minutes of Newberg.

If you are willing to participate, please contact Val Gabriychuk at gabriychukv19@georgefox.edu or Sarah Julian at sjulian19@georgefox.edu.

Want to participate in the Spring Market? Sign up now

Thursday, March 23rd, 2023

Want the opportunity to sell your art at Student Activities’ Spring Market in the quad on Friday, April 21, from 3 to 5 p.m.? All you need to do is complete the Table Rental Form to reserve a table to sell as much art as you’d like to sell to your fellow students and our local community.

Nothing to sell but still want to participate? Want the opportunity to share your musical talent at the market? Complete the Spring Market Open Mic Form. We want to open up the stage to anyone interested in sharing a cool song or to preform in front of a low-key public audience of fellow students and community members.

Speaking of activities, here are our events coming up:

  • Spring Formal Secret Garden: Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m. at The Crystal Ballroom (ticket sales begin the week of April 3)

Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Grizzly Vertical Spindle Sander

Thursday, March 23rd, 2023

The Grizzly vertical spindle sander is normally used for sanding the inside corners of wood or sanding curved surfaces square to the table. The machine contains a 1HP motor and has 10 different sanding spindles ranging from a quarter inch to to 4 inches in diameter.

The oscillating action gives users a smooth-sanded surface at 1725 RPM. Check out this video to see how it works. For more information, visit the Maker Hub’s wiki page.

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.
