Audition for hilarious student-directed 10-minute plays

Every year, the theatre department’s directing class produces a series of hilarious 10-minute plays called Ten! Ten! Ten!, and all are in invited to participate!

Each play is student-directed and offers acting opportunities for performers of all (or no) experience levels! For information about dates, time commitment, and auditions, check out this link. Use the same link to sign up for a time slot to audition on Monday, Oct. 16.

Recieve suicide prevention training with Sources of Strength Club on Oct. 21

Our Sources of Strength training with licensed state trainers will be on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Roberts 117. This is a fun, engaging training focused on the goals and methods for upstream, positive, strengths-based suicide prevention. Everybody is welcome to join!

We will be providing lunch to all who RSVP to this form by Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Plan to attend Business Club’s ‘Slides Night’ this Tuesday

Mark your calendars for some creative fun, free custom stickers, caramel corn, and community connections at the first gathering of the George Fox Business Club: Slides Night, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 17. You can RSVP here.

Come join us in Stevens 207 for a chance to connect with students across all of the business majors, enjoy some caramel corn, and exercise your creative and comedic skills in a marketing activity open to all.

For Slides Night, we’ll share a little about the Business Club and give you some time to get to know other students in small groups. Then, we’ll present everyone with a prompt / problem to solve and give your small group about 20 minutes to come up with the most creative, effective, or goofy solution to the prompt and “market” it to the rest of us with a couple of presentation slides.

What do you need to bring? Please bring yourself and a laptop (we’ll even give you a free Business Club sticker to put on it)!

Newberg campus closes Friday for mid-semester holiday

Newberg campus offices will be closed this Friday, Oct. 13, for the mid-semester holiday. The Murdock Library will be closed, but the 24-hour space will remain open. The library will resume regular hours of operation over the weekend.

The Bruin Store will be open for regular hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on Friday.

You may choose one of three levels of commitment:

  • Top level: Four chapel credits, one hour PSCI 485 academic credit*, nine hours of training and practice in interfaith dialog skills, and first priority for one of the available slots. Requires attending the retreat and completing single-credit course requirements.
  • Middle level: Four chapel credits, nine hours of training and practice in interfaith dialogue skills, and second priority for one of the available slots. Requires attending the retreat and a follow-up session on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 8.
  • Lowest level: Three chapel credits, nine hours of training and practice in interfaith dialogue skills, and third priority for one of the available slots. Requires attending the retreat.

Get a discounted massage Monday and fund a service trip to Uganda

Do you have stress, aches, pains, or just want to feel relaxed? Come by to get a massage from a Doctor of Physical Therapy student!

Our mission is to improve our community’s health by offering discounted massages to students and employees ($25) and community members ($30). We are offering 25-minute massages this Monday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Medical Sciences Building (448 Werth Blvd., in Newberg).

Your contribution will help fund our medical service trip to Uganda. Donations are also welcome; there will be a tip jar on site! You can register for a massage using this Google Form.

American Civil War historian from Princeton University speaks on campus Oct. 17

President Robin Baker invites you to hear from American Civil War historian and author Dr. Allen C. Guelzo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Canyon Commons. He will give a free lecture entitled, “Why Do We Remember the Civil War?”

Dr. Guelzo is one of our nation’s most accomplished Civil War historians, and one of the country’s foremost Lincoln scholars. He is a New York Times best-selling author and one of Power Line’s 100 “Top Professors” in America.

He serves as senior research scholar in the Council of the Humanities and director of the Initiative on Politics and Statesmanship in the James Madison Program at Princeton University.
