Annual Phase II event open for viewing starting today at 8 a.m.

Tuesday, May 1st, 2018

Plant Services is hosting its annual Phase II event this week. At the end of every school year many students have good reusable items that they do not want to take home over the summer. These items often include blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, furniture, etc.

Items will be open for viewing in the Macy basement today (Wednesday) and tomorrow between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. It also will be open Friday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. After students and staff view these items, the remaining items will be donated to other local charities.

In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of our resources, Phase II was initiated. Many students have benefited from these items. For example, summer work-study students often find items they need for apartment living.

What are your plans for the summer?

Monday, April 30th, 2018

Summer is here and we’re sure you have exciting places to go and things to do! We also know that many of you have jobs or internships (or both) planned for this summer, and we really want to know what those are. This information is helpful to us for many reasons, especially because we love to brag about the amazing things our students do outside of the classroom. We’re even putting together a campaign that will highlight several students and their summer internship experiences, and we’d love to include you!

On top of that, we’ll be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card to one lucky respondent! Click on this link to complete our two-minute survey. Questions? Contact Grace Packer.

Be sure to take advantage of Phase II

Thursday, April 26th, 2018

At the end of every school year many students have good reusable items that they do not want to take home over the summer, including blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, furniture, etc.

In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of the resources, Phase II was initiated. We are happy to receive reusable items that students do not want to take home starting on April 21 and going through April 30 at 4 p.m.

The items gathered are sorted and made available to summer students and staff, with the remainder of the items being given to different organizations in the local area, such as Rescue Mission, Unwed Mothers Homes, Love INC and Goodwill.

Barrels will be placed in or near central living areas …

  • On the porches or patios of Weesner, Riley, Chapman, Hoskins, Armstrong, Campbell, Fulton St., Villa Road, Barclay, Hodgin and Wilder houses
  • In the dorm lobbies of Edwards, Pennington, Gulley, Le Shana, Brandt, Hobson, Macy and Sutton
  • Outside of the first floor of Beebe, Carey and Willcuts
  • Near Woolman 2-3, Winters 205-2 and Newlin apartments
  • In Lewis and Weesner Village laundry rooms

Please look for and use these barrels as you prepare to leave at the end of school.

  • Please do not place trash in the barrels labeled “Phase II.”
  • Please do not donate undergarments, socks, damaged or soiled items
  • Do not donate large appliances or furniture such as couches, arm chairs and beds
  • Do not place food or chemicals in the barrels. Place these items in a box or bag next to the barrels.

There are large drop boxes for your trash located strategically on campus. By law, computers, monitors and TVs cannot go into the trash. They can be place beside the barrels. Please note if it is broken.

Have a great summer and may the Lord bless you as you go!

Questions? Contact Dwayne Astleford (dastlefo@georgefox.edu).

Thank you,
Phase II Committee

Leaving vehicles on campus policy

Wednesday, April 25th, 2018

Here is the policy for leaving cars on campus during Juniors Abroad and summer serve trips:

  1. Due to construction all summer long around campus, it is recommended to leave your car off-campus with a friend who can drive it and watch it, as George Fox is not responsible for any theft or damage to your vehicle while left unattended on campus.
  2. Cars must be left in one of two places only: the side of the Le Shana lot closest to Wheeler and the North Street parking lot in between Brandt Hall and Canyon Commons.
  3. The key must be left with Security Services before departure.
  4. Security has a form to be signed, and name and number of emergency contact is needed on the form in addition to your license plate number, make and model of vehicle, and where it was parked.
  5. Upon return from the trip, call security at 503-554-2090 to arrange a time with the officer on duty to pick up your key if it is after office hours. Bring photo ID to claim your key.
  6. Any vehicle left on campus without the key being left with security is subject to tow at your expense due to Plant Services/construction activity all around campus during the summer.
  7. Do not abandon your car on city streets, as the city of Newberg will tow it as an “abandoned vehicle” after 72 hours.
  8. Enjoy your time abroad!

Important vehicle registration information for fall 2018

Wednesday, April 25th, 2018

Students: Be sure to check the Daily Bruin and your email during early summer to find out the dates when vehicle registration will open this summer. Parking permits for on-campus students will be issued on a first-come, first served basis based on fall class standing, so don’t miss your registration time window! Seniors will be given the first registration window, then juniors, etc.

Commuter and graduate students will have the first opportunity to register, so please do so by Aug. 1 to assure that your permit will arrive before school starts.

For anyone who registers after mid-August, please use your campus PO box, or the address you will be commuting from as your mailing address, as it will take up to two to three weeks for your permit to arrive to the address you indicate.

All students will need to have your DMV registration slip in front of you when you register on MyGFU, as the database will ask for information from that slip. A parking brochure will also be mailed with your parking permit, and lot and location changes are likely due to ongoing construction, so be sure to read it before arriving on campus!

Have a great summer and keep watching this space, your email and the George Fox Security Services Facebook page for further updates.

Employees: If you could help get the word out to students about vehicle registration, it would be greatly appreciated.
