Hear from Kent Thornburg on discussing faith in the medical field

Monday, February 19th, 2024

The Biology Student Council invites the university community to join us this Thursday, Feb. 22, for the unique opportunity to hear alumnus Kent Thornburg – a professionally trained scientist, researcher and professor – talk about the conflict of faith in the medical field and answer any questions you may have. Join us in Room 102 of the Edwards-Holman Science Center at 6:30 p.m.

This is a very special opportunity, especially for those looking to enter a pre-health career, and considering OHSU as an option!

Thornburg has been the director of both the OHSU Center for Developmental Health and the Moore Institute for Nutrition and Wellness for 50 years.

What will you get out of it?

  • The opportunity to ask questions to an expert in the field, such as “What do I do if a patient asks me to pray with them?”
  • Grow in your faith by wrestling with real-life challenges that you may potentially face
  • Preparing for your future
  • Chapel credit!

Feel free to attend even if you have to arrive late or leave early; we would still love to have you! Please fill out this Google Form with any questions you would like answered.

Reach out to Sophie Denham at sdenham22@georgefox.edu with any questions.

Reminder: Extend the Be Known promise to Monday @ Fox guests today

Sunday, February 18th, 2024

Today is our Monday @ Fox visit day. Most high school students do not have school due to the President’s Day holiday, and we are expecting about 100 visitors to be on campus as a result.

Prospective students will participate in a campus tour, visit classes, eat lunch on campus, and tour academic departments of interest. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is asking students and employees to help make visitors feel the Be Known promise during their time on campus.

A few things to note:

  • Plan to park in areas outside of the Stevens lot if possible to ensure enough spaces for visitors.
  • There will be tours rotating through campus and residence areas at 9 and 10 a.m. as well as 1 and 2 p.m.
  • Consider offering a helping hand if visitors need directions or have questions about George Fox.

Feel free to reach out to Miranda Engstrom at mdavidson@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.

Reminder: Sign up for tomorrow’s donor-funded scholarship review sessions

Sunday, February 18th, 2024

Remember to sign up for the upcoming donor-funded scholarship application workshop, hosted by the Office of Financial Aid and the Academic Resource Center!

The workshop will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) in the ARC (Murdock Library, first floor) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. There will be a total of 24 individual appointments offered (15 minutes each) for traditional undergraduate students. You must sign up for an appointment in person at the ARC front desk. The deadline to sign up is today (Monday), and no drop-ins will be accepted during the workshop.

You will need to bring a laptop to your appointment. While ARC staff are happy to help you brainstorm your answers, it is best to have a rough draft ready so they can help you with content editing, proofreading, and clarity.

Students who have already completed their applications may edit their answers and resubmit, and are eligible to sign up for this event. All students who initially submitted applications by Feb. 15 will still remain in the Early-Bird Scholarship drawing, even if they resubmit after the early-bird deadline.

If you are unable to attend the event, but still want to work with an ARC consultant, you may schedule an appointment during their normal office hours. The final deadline to apply for our donor-funded scholarships is March 1.

If you have any questions, please contact the financial aid office at finaid@georgefox.edu or visit our office on the second floor of the Stevens Center during our drop-in hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Each year, these individuals are voted into their roles. The election season begins in a few weeks and will gear up in March. ASC will send out additional details in the coming days.
