At the bi-annual meeting of Yamhill Community Action Partnership, Jere Witherspoon learned why the food bank was unable to purchase needed items: tariffs and the good economy.
Very little hope was given that this would change soon. This is a call to action for everyone who has a yellow grocery bag!
The Bruin Community Pantry needs donations like:
- Pasta – other than spaghetti
- Tomato sauces
- One can meals – stews
- Boxed meals
- Alternative milk products
- Cereal – not individual oatmeal packets
- Grains
- Hearty soups
- Vegetables
- Beans – kidney, black, refried, white beans
- Gluten-free products – pasta
You can drop off your donations at the following locations:
- Bruin Store
- Stevens Center – Student Life office or Barbi Doran’s desk
- Roberts Center – during food bank’s open hours
We are also running low on the 100 bags that were initially put into play. If you have a bag, please fill it up and deliver it to one of the locations.
Contact Jere (jwithers@georgefox.edu) for more information.

In order to promote a fun and positive environment around the Halloween and harvest party season, the student life office has a few tips on avoiding cultural appropriation in your costume choice:
- Avoid clothing that belongs to the traditions of a people group other than your own.
- Avoid anything that involves blackface, Native/Indigenous representation, etc.
- Ask yourself: Why do I want to wear this costume? Could my costume be misunderstood if I don’t understand its origin or cultural context?
- Not sure what cultural appropriation is? Stop by the Intercultural Resource Center (IRC) and ask Bryce or Jenny about it.
If you have any questions, please contact the student life office or the Intercultural Resource Center.
