Tax time is nearly here! Student Accounts is preparing to have 1098-T tuition tax statements available by Friday, Jan. 31, for students who qualify. We ask that you please sign up for electronic access. Granting consent only takes a minute and you will get the following benefits:

  • Earliest access to the form
  • Access to a PDF copy that can be sent to parents/third parties
  • Avoid mail delays and theft
  • Help us save paper

Learn about working for Nike

All students are invited to the Nike Unlocked session on Friday, Jan. 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 103. This informational event will focus on Nike’s history and heritage, as well as jobs and internships.

Learn to dance in K-pop style

If you are interested in learning some rad choreography and think K-pop is pretty cool, then join in as we keep on dancing this spring semester! Our dance class will meet every Sunday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Hadlock Student Center.

Celebrate Chinese lunar new year

The Chinese lunar new year celebration is one of George Fox’s biggest cultural events on campus! We share authentic Chinese food such as Kung Pao beef, black pepper beef, and sweet and sour chicken from the popular restaurant Taste of Sichuan and Bon Appetit. Join us on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101.

This year we are offering dumpling creation and Chinese character writing stations. Our program will include a presentation about Chinese traditions. Space is limited, so please reserve your seat here.

Water will be shut off in quad-area buildings today

The city of Newberg will be replacing a water meter outside the Stevens Center today (Friday). The water will be shut off in the entire building from 9 a.m. to noon. Restrooms will be available in the Hoover building during that time.

In addition, Plant Services will be repairing a main water line to EHS, Wood-Mar, Lemmons and Brougher today. The water will be off in these buildings from noon until 4 p.m. Please avoid the cordoned-off work zone outside of EHS, as the ground is very soft.

Join new group fitness classes

Group fitness classes in the Hadlock Student Center start this week! In addition to our regular classes, we are adding several new classes in the next few weeks (Zumba and barre) and some fantastic new instructors.

Bring teddy bear to basketball game tomorrow

Join us for an evening of high-level hoops and a Team Emery teddy bear toss! Bring a new teddy bear to the women’s basketball game tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 p.m. in Wheeler Sports Center and toss the bear onto the court at halftime. The bears will be collected and donated to local charities and children’s hospitals.

Last year, 371 bears were collected from Bruin fans and distributed to children at local hospitals. Team Emery has donated more than 44,000 teddy bears to sick children over the course of eight years.

University closes Monday to observe MLK Day

The university’s offices, libraries and bookstores will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, to observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The Hadlock Student Center will be open that day from noon to 11 p.m.

While the Murdock Library will be closed, the 24/7 space in the facility will remain open.

Register for sports career fair

If you love sports and want to learn about how to break into the sports industry, come to the Sports Career Fair at the Moda Center in Portland on Friday, Feb. 21, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. To reserve your spot, bring $20 to the front desk of the IDEA Center. Tickets will go quickly, so act fast!

You will meet and network with organizations in the sports industry and hear from some of the best in the business. A panel presentation will be followed by a fair where you can talk to recruiters from the Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, Tacoma Rainiers, Portland Winterhawks, Sacramento Kings, and many others.

Transportation will be provided for those that need it. Plus, your $20 ticket will get you into that night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Tickets now available for Monster Piano Concert Feb. 6

Both classical and familiar tunes will fill Bauman Auditorium when a Monster Piano Concert takes the stage for the 14th annual Bösendorfer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The evening will feature 18 performers playing eight pianos, on many occasions simultaneously, and the university’s Rodgers organ. Those performing include the University Keyboard Ensemble, alumni and students from professor Kenn Willson’s piano studio. Some selections will feature as many as 16 pianists playing at one time.

The program will feature Bach’s Concerto for 3 Pianos, Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and Beethoven’s 3 Marches as a tribute to the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Also included will be Beethoven’s Rondo Capriccioso, featuring three performers at each piano.

The evening will also feature well-known tunes such as Skip to My Lou, Stars Stripes Forever, two modern praise songs, and a hymn in which the audience will be encouraged to join in singing, accompanied by eight pianos and the organ.
