Volunteer with the Stewards of Sustainability Club this Saturday, Jan. 27, for our Cocoa and Cleanup event!

We will meet up at 2 p.m. in Klages 231, go out and pick up trash around campus, then return to Klages afterwards to celebrate with hot cocoa and donuts. We plan to be done by 4 p.m. (note the time correction). To help us with our goal of reducing waste, bring your favorite mug for hot cocoa!

Help us make a tangible difference on campus and keep our local community clean, safe and beautiful. Employees are welcome to join us as well!

Celebrating the 400th birthday of George Fox the man, Paul Anderson is leading a Life Group this semester on “The Prophetic Openings of George Fox,” noting how his transforming encounters with Christ changed his life and became a calling to evangelize the world.

In-person and Zoom options are possible. Sessions will meet from 1 to 1:50 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 31 to March 20 in Hoover 118.

First-gen students: Join FAFSA session and enjoy free pizza tomorrow night

Attention first-generation students! Join us in Stevens 209 at 5 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) to begin/complete your FAFSA! Two financial aid counselors will be available to chat about the current FAFSA updates; you’ll have the rest of the time to work on your FAFSA with your fellow Bruins.

We’ll provide pizza and host two raffles for Stanley water bottles. Please bring your laptop and check out this link for any documents you may want to bring.

More FAFSA prep to consider:

  • Parent(s)/guardian(s) will need their own email address for the application to be sent to. You can help/encourage your parent/guardian to create their own email address beforehand if they don’t have one.
  • Bring any W-2s that the student has for 2022 (money you have made)
  • Parent/guardian birthdays and Social Security information should be handy (if they do not have a Social Security number, knowing their address will work)

Combat Sports Club welcomes you to join us on the mat

Hello everyone! The Combat Sports Club’s first jiu-jitsu practice is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) from 8:15 to roughly 9:30 p.m. in the Newberg High School mat room. Regular practices will likely continue on Wednesdays for jiu-jitsu and Mondays for wrestling.

If you need a ride or are willing to provide transportation, please contact Emanuel Lopez at lopeze23@georgefox.edu. Our VP Erik has a 12-passenger van and will be leaving from the Duke parking lot at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

For the first jiu-jitsu practice, wrestling shoes are not required. Please wear athletic clothing and come ready to learn, exercise, and practice safely. Don’t forget to fill out this liability form before attending practices.

Want to learn how to knit or crochet? Intimidated by the thought of learning how? The Arts & Crafts Club is hosting a cozy winter event featuring hot chocolate and an introductory lesson on how to knit and crochet!

Everyone (including employees) is welcome to join us this Friday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Hoover 203. This lesson will be geared toward absolute beginners, and we will learn the basics together.

The C.S. Lewis Initiative at George Fox is accepting papers for The Undiscovered C.S. Lewis Conference happening Sept. 5-8, 2024! Submissions are welcome from scholars at every career stage, and limited scholarships are available for students and independent scholars.

Climbers of all levels invited to compete in top rope event on Feb. 2

University Recreation is hosting its first-ever top rope competition! This free event is open to climbers of all levels, regardless of if you have climbed top rope before. It’s happening in Hadlock from 4 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2.

Join cross country skiing trip on Mt. Hood this weekend

Join an OREC trip this Sunday for some fun in the snow! We will be cross-country skiing alongside the White River on a moderate three- to four-mile out-and-back trail.

The day will start off with an amazing drive through Mt. Hood, introductory lessons to cross-country skiing, and a fun-filled day in the snow. This is a popular destination and will provide you with some of the best views of Mt. Hood.

No prior skiing experience is needed; our instructors will teach you all that you need to know. To register, go here.

Join a free backcountry snow safety workshop next week

Students and employees, join University Recreation for a free one-hour workshop on backcountry snow safety! Our knowledgeable instructors will walk you through a presentation and activities about how to best travel in the backcountry safety.

The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Hadlock Student Center (check in at the front desk).

This is an excellent workshop to familiarize yourself with avalanche risks and hazards unique to winter travel. Come with something to take notes, and be ready to ask your questions! Attendees must RSVP by going here.

As a bonus, everyone who attends will receive a free voucher to rent snowshoes from the Hadlock Rental Center!
