Two character and leadership lecture events will take place Monday, Oct. 21, and you’re invited.

If you are involved in athletics at George Fox, whether athlete, coach or staff, plan to attend “The Athlete’s Journey: How Sports Shape Character” at 8 a.m. in Canyon Commons. Adam Puckett and Sabrina Little will be interviewed, followed by an audience question-and-answer session. Breakfast will be provided (for those without meal plans).

The public lunch lecture, “Developing Courage through Opposite Actions,” focuses on the development of virtues. It is open to all. Come to Canyon Commons at noon for this lecture, again followed by an audience question-and-answer session. Lunch will be provided (for those without meal plans).

The Center for Peace and Justice invites you to a presentation entitled “Journey of Hope,” featuring Elio Constantine. Constantine oversees the Middle East Center for Justice and Missions, a ministry of the charity Heart For Lebanon.

Don’t miss this powerful message on transforming lives through faith and action. Join us this Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105.

In his presentation, Constantine will explore how we are called to live in justice and how a biblical approach to justice is applicable anywhere in the world. He will also address the root causes of injustices in Lebanon and the surrounding region.

The Social Work Club, in partnership with the A21 nonprofit organization, invites you to Walk For Freedom, a day dedicated to raising awareness of human trafficking. We believe that, together, we can put an end to human trafficking. For over a decade, supporters like you have taken local action and made a global impact.

This Saturday, Oct. 19, we will come together and hit the streets again. Walking in single-file lines, holding posters and handing out flyers, we will reach our cities with information about human trafficking and how to take action against it. Meet us in front of the Chehalem Cultural Center at 10:30 a.m. to join the cause.

We invite you to participate in The Great Oregon ShakeOut, an annual event that gives everyone the opportunity to practice how to be safe during an earthquake. On Thursday, Oct. 17, George Fox will take a few minutes to participate in the largest-ever earthquake drill at 10:17 a.m.

We are asking participants to drop, cover, and hold on. During the days leading up to the event, we will be sharing additional information and resources on what to do during an earthquake.

Remind your families to register for Family Weekend, Oct. 18-20! Today (Friday) is the last day to register. There will be events, games, prizes, and many additional opportunities to spend quality time with your family on campus.

Your family can’t make it? No problem. Family can be a spouse, a friend, grandparents, or anyone you consider family. You can even gather a group of friends and register together! Scholarship season is almost here, and appointments are now available at the Academic Resource Center (ARC) to help you craft high-quality essays and put your best foot forward in your applications.

The financial aid office and the ARC are partnering to offer this new ongoing service with the goal of helping more of our students earn extra funds for the 2025-26 academic year. While you may be familiar with the OSAC Scholarships (opening on Nov. 1) and our George Fox Donor-Funded Scholarships (opening Dec. 1), there are thousands more outside scholarships available to those willing to brave the application process.

Many scholarship applications are structured similarly and ask the same questions, so preparing well now can help you streamline your applications down the road. Follow the steps below to help you along in your scholarship search:

• Look through our Outside Scholarships page for links to regional and national databases that will help you find scholarships you may be eligible for.
• Review our Scholarship Essay Tips to begin piecing together your strongest content.
• Schedule an appointment with the Academic Resource Center for individual help with your scholarship essay writing.
• Keep your eyes open for more Daily Bruin posts and emails with information about upcoming scholarship workshops!

Come join University Recreation at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) for our first-ever worship night. This worship night will be put on by UREC staff and is open to all students and faculty. There will be plenty of music, a small message and time for prayer.

The athletic department is in need of 10 volunteers to help scan tickets at the Saturday, Oct. 19, home football game against Linfield. Volunteers need to be willing to add the ticketing app to their phone to help scan tickets and commit to a maximum of four hours.

Are you interested in doing research? The Richter Scholars program at George Fox distributes funds to support student research activities that are devised, initiated and carried out by individual student researchers, with mentorship, guidance and expertise provided by a faculty mentor.
