Welcome to spring! April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the George Fox Sexual Misconduct CARE Team is hoping to bring more attention and education to this on campus.

We will be holding a virtual event featuring survivor, educator and wellness coach Brittany Piper. Brittany uses her story of adversity, resilience, and triumph to empower and inspire audiences to take brave action in their own lives and communities.

Brittany will be sharing on:

• Rape Culture: A Survivor’s Perspective
• From Hardship to Leadership: Transforming Pain into Progress
• After the Assault: Healing Through Self-Care for Survivors and Their Peers

This event will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 6 p.m. over Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided directly to you through email. Please fill out this Google Form if you are interested in attending.

We take donations for the Closet Project year-round and are in need of clean dress clothes, denim, women’s tops, men’s jackets, and blazers. Please bring donations by the Bruin Store during business hours. All sales from the Closet Project are donated back to the Bruin Community Pantry, so this is a great way to both give back and put your fellow students first.

The due date for rental books is rapidly approaching! As soon as you are done with your textbooks, please bring them to the Bruin Store for check-in. If you have books that you purchased but will no longer need, take advantage of our buyback program to see if we can give you cash for your books.

Are you experiencing Achilles tendon pain? Have you ever been diagnosed with Achilles tendinopathy and still having trouble? If so, you may qualify to participate in the Achilles tendon research study conducted by the doctor of physical therapy department.

Research will be conducted on Wednesday, April 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Roberts Center’s Room 202.

The theatre program invites all students and employees with an itch for acting to take our new acting class (THEA 205: Acting Studio) next year. The class will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 2:50 p.m. and is designed for all theatre lovers regardless of experience.

Whether you are interested in learning the fundamentals of acting or sharpening your current acting skill-set, this class is designed to take your work as an actor to the next level of excellence.

Students will engage in fun acting games, rigorous training, the performance of scenes, the study of acting theories, and critical analysis of performance throughout the semester. This course is a great stepping stone for all individuals interested in being part of George Fox’s co-curricular theatre program of the future!

Campus Recreation is hosting our annual Bruin Boulder Bash tomorrow (Friday) from 4 to 9 p.m.! This is a fun-filled climbing competition for all experience levels. We will have men’s and women’s divisions in beginner, intermediate, and advanced categories.

There will be prizes, swag, and great community! This year, we will also have a lounge with games and activities for climbers and spectators to engage in while you wait to climb. To climb, please sign up for a one-hour time slot here.

The university’s theatre department invites the George Fox community to its spring music theatre adventure, Parables: A Theatrical Installation, to be presented live on campus April 8-11 and April 15-18, and both live and virtually April 15-18.

Live performances are free and are scheduled at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 8-10 and April 15-17, and on both Sundays at 7:30 p.m. only. We will meet at the amphitheater on campus to begin the live shows.

Plant Services has job postings on Handshake for working with our grounds crew, carpentry crew, and porter services (furniture moving crew). You do not need a work-study award to work over the summer, but you do have to be enrolled in the fall 2021 semester.

Do you ever struggle to write the intro and conclusion paragraphs of your essays? Is starting a paper the hardest part of your writing process? Join the ARC for our “Intro and Conclusion Writing Workshop” tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

You will be led through an easy process for writing tight, successful intro and conclusion paragraphs. You’ll even have time to ask questions relevant to your paper at the end. Come and get some preliminary help on those final essays you have coming up!

Director Cristi Miles and an ensemble of theatre students will devise a theatrical experience based on well-known (and not so well-known) parables, fables, allegories and the international bestselling book, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coehlo, for site-specific performances around our beautiful campus.

We’re thrilled to offer undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in a centralized internship program with the university’s marketing communications office.

Students will spend the majority of time working closely with the digital ads manager and content directors to support online advertising initiatives and more! For the summer, this is a full-time position that will carry over into the 2021-22 school year. It is a 10-hour-a-week opportunity and is not offered for credit.

Campus Recreation is hosting a self-defense workshop on Sunday, April 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. This workshop is a stand-alone training that walks through self-defense techniques and scenarios.

It is held as a one-time seminar, whereas our normal class is ongoing. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about self-defense. No previous experience is necessary!

Campus Public Safety has noticed a lot of bikes scattered across campus recently. Please remember to lock your bike to a bike rack with a heavy-duty lock and chain. Leaving bikes in random places creates a temptation for thieves to steal them.

At the end of the spring semester, a university-wide bicycle cleanup will be done. Bicycles that are illegally parked, unregistered or inoperable will be impounded, as bicycle racks will need to be cleared to do routine maintenance to the bicycle racks and surrounding areas.

Students using their bikes during the summer are encouraged to move their bikes inside to store them in their summer housing.

Bicycles not picked up from the impound lot within 60 days will be forwarded to the local charities at the discretion of the Campus Public Safety office. Junk bicycles will be recycled.
