Learn about new Northern Ireland study abroad program this Tuesday

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

Were you aware of the university’s new study abroad opportunity in Northern Ireland? Beginning next semester, students have the option to spend four months living and studying in Belfast!

Want to learn more? Meet with John Brown University professor Billy Stevenson to get details and ask questions at his table in Canyon Commons this Tuesday, Oct. 12. He will be set up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. George Fox is partnering with John Brown to make this option available.

Can’t make it during that time frame? Not a problem. Feel free to attend an info session at 7 p.m. that same day in Hoover 105, where Stevenson will talk about his experience of growing up in Northern Ireland and about the program. Both students and faculty are welcome to attend!

For more information, visit this page or contact Lynn Scott (lscott@georgefox.edu) in the Center for Study Abroad.

Join Mathetes’ discussion tonight on ESL experience

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

Come to our Mathetes panel from 7 to 8:30 p.m., tonight (Thursday) in Hoover 102.

Mathetes is a safe conversational space in which students and faculty can engage with each other and learn from the experience of others in their Fox community. Our hope for this panel is that we can confront the myth that every person who is involved in higher education has the same educational experience.

This Mathetes event will unpack the experience of individuals who are English-learners (ESL), or who have experience in the language-learning environment. We hope to see you there!

Cookies and coffee will be provided!

If you have any questions, contact Victoria Prieto (vprieto17@georgefox.edu).

Plan ahead to audition for ‘Godspell’ on Oct. 25

Monday, October 4th, 2021

The George Fox student community is welcome to audition for the university theatre’s winter musical, Godspell. General auditions will be on Monday, Oct. 25, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

Co-curricular students (anyone not a theatre major or minor) are instructed to prepare a 90-second monologue and one minute of a Broadway song of your choice. If you can’t find your own monologue, we will have monologues at the audition table for you to pick up and read (no need to memorize, or find your own, if you’d rather not). However, your song must be your choice.

If you are up for the challenge, bring your sheet music with you so our accompanist can play for you. Or, if that feels too scary, either bring recorded instrumental music that you can play on your phone, or sing it for us without accompaniment (a cappella). In short, if you want to audition we want you there!

Theatre majors and minors: Prepare a fully memorized and rehearsed 90-second monologue and one minute of a Broadway song of your choice for the general audition (bring sheet music to the audition).

All: Callbacks will feature cold readings, dance auditions and vocal work. Callbacks will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 26-27, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the same location.

The cast will include five women and five men. Go to this Google link to sign up for a five-minute time slot.

Contact Rhett Luedtke at rluedtke@georgefox.edu with any questions.
