Come help out at the Newberg Peace Garden, which will help supply the Bruin Community Pantry with fresh produce. Here is when you can help:

We will be planting hedges and building raised beds both days. This is a tangible way to care for our neighbors and steward the resources of creation. Meet us at the garden, which is directly behind the Newberg First Presbyterian Church. Any amount of time you can give will help us finish this project.

Make plans to join the inaugural “Friendly Walk” on Saturday, May 10, starting at 10 a.m. Gather in the plaza on the south side of the Chehalem Cultural Center (adjacent to Sheridan Street).

You will be formed into small teams of people (at least some of whom you won’t know), given a map of a suggested route, and sent off on about an hour’s walk, team by team. You will have information on key historical and cultural sites in downtown Newberg and on the George Fox campus, and will cooperate to complete items on a list of things to do, talk about, and find along the way.

On returning to the Cultural Center, teams will receive prizes, including a special prize if you can show photos or other evidence of each item on the to-do list.

Along the way you will learn about Newberg’s history, have fun, get some exercise, get to know some new people, help create a stronger network of friendly relationships in the community across ideological or other boundaries, and improve your ability to use disagreements to generate better ideas for a better community.

Why do Americans love C.S. Lewis? A presentation by Dr. Stephanie Derrick tackles the question, offering thought-provoking insights. Her keynote lecture is the second uploaded to a new YouTube channel featuring content from The Undiscovered C.S. Lewis Conference hosted on campus last fall – the largest academic conference on Lewis in history.

Be sure to subscribe to the channel and stay tuned for other stimulating keynote lectures that will be added in the coming weeks. You can also help promote it by sharing the channel, liking the video, and sharing the video.

Starting Monday, May 5, the Bruin Community Pantry, located in Lewis Apartment 1, will be open during the following times:

• Mondays: 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Tuesdays: 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Wednesdays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Thursdays: 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

We will be closed for the following holidays this semester:

• Monday, May 26: Memorial Day
• Monday, June 19: Juneteenth

As you head home at the end of term, do not forget to take your bike with you. Campus Public Safety will be conducting its annual bicycle roundup starting Wednesday, May 7. Bikes that are illegally parked, unregistered, or inoperable will be impounded.

Here are a few more things to take note of regarding bikes:

• Bicycles may not be stored on the campus during the summer semester.
• If you are staying on campus over the summer and plan to keep a bike here, please stop by Campus Public Safety to get a sticker ID. Move your bike to the rack that is closest to your summer housing.
• Impounded bicycles will be kept at CPS for 60 days and then donated to local charities at the discretion of the Campus Public Safety office. Claims for impounded bikes may be made at the CPS office. Junk bikes will be recycled.

If you want to log into your George Fox account while abroad, you will need to know about your multi-factor authentication method’s compatibility before you travel.

• Okta Verify and Google Authenticator will continue working with an international SIM card or WiFi connection. This is what you will need to have set up.
• SMS and Voice Call authentication will not work for U.S. phone numbers without international phone plans.

Here are instructions for adding and removing multi-factor authentication methods:

• Go to login.georgefox.edu
• Click your name in the upper right corner
• From the drop-down menu, select “Settings”
• Scroll down to the section labeled “Extra Verification”
• Click “Set Up” and follow the prompts
  • If methods are labeled enabled/disabled, scroll to top right and click “Edit Profile”
  • Enter your password and authenticate

Congratulations on making it to finals week and a well-earned summer vacation! With only a few days left until you leave campus, make sure your financial aid is ready to go for fall. Once you head out and start soaking up that sunshine, it’s easy to forget all about school. So get these things done ASAP, and enjoy a worry-free summer!

Be Known, Be Done, May 1

Complete the following tasks by May 1, if you haven’t already, in order to attain the most accurate picture of your financial aid and remaining balance. This will help equip you to make plans for your August payment. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions!

• File your 2025-26 FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible if you want to access federal or state aid!
• Accept, reduce or decline your loans in MyGeorgeFox by following these instructions (we can always adjust them for you later if you change your mind).
• Plan ahead if you’ll be using a Parent PLUS Loan or a private loan – applications are open now!
• Complete all To-Do List items in your MyGeorgeFox account (under the Tasks tile) to authorize your federal aid.
• Submit a 2025-26 Professional Judgment request if your family’s financial situation has changed since 2023, or if you had a Professional Judgment this year for special circumstances that will continue next year.

The financial aid office is located in the Stevens Center and is open Monday through Friday. You can drop in between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., or schedule an appointment with your counselor in person, over the phone, or on Zoom.

Remember that all spring term book rentals are due at the Bruin Bookstore by Friday, May 2. Have a great last week of term!

Students: Before you say your goodbyes and leave campus, here are a few payroll reminders.

First, please be sure to lock your timesheets once you are finished working your last shift in April. This will prevent any delays on your May paycheck.

Second, be sure to update any address changes with Mail Services or sign up for direct deposit. Payroll will continue to distribute checks through mail services, so an accurate address is important.

To get your paycheck automatically sent to your bank account on payday, sign up for direct deposit by stopping by the Office of People and Culture. You can either bring a voided check or a printed direct deposit form from your bank that includes your name, account number and routing number. Many banks have these forms available to print through their online banking website or mobile app.

You can also fill out the direct deposit form linked on our website and submit your proof from your bank to our paperwork dropbox.
