Check out D&D player and Dungeon Master workshops

Hey D&D nerds! This week, we’re hosting two fun workshops – one for players and one for Dungeon Masters!

For the players, this week’s topic is “Intro to Spellcasting.” We’re here to not only provide you with a crash course on how spells work in D&D, but also to answer those questions that you have. Join us from 6 to 7 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 18, in Hoover 211 to gain some magical skills.

Every Monday we also host our DM workshop! Even if you just have a couple of questions, stop on by Hoover 211 at 8 p.m. to get them answered!

Plant Services has work-study positions available

Join worship and prayer time at ‘The Burn’ Thursday in the Stevens Center

The goal of “The Burn” is to create space for students to connect with God. Students can come and go as they please, and enjoy various stations meant to help you worship.

Participate in annual Code Jam Summit for some creative fun

Interested in teaming up with others to learn how to code a creative project? If so, come to the Code Jam!

The Code Jam is a weekend-long event where students work collaboratively to build a project using any technology stack in 30 hours. It will take place April 1-3, and this year we will be giving out $500 in prizes.

This event is designed for students to turn creative ideas into real-life projects while working in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. This is the place to showcase your creativity and innovation, as well as create something super cool outside of the classroom, especially for the CSIS 201/202 students.

Register by Friday, March 4, to guarantee a spot in the hackathon! If you have a team, you still need to register individually.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recently made recommendations to improve primary care, two of which were to build interprofessional care teams and community-based training programs. We at the university’s Interprofessional Primary Care Institute have decided to do both.

Avoid using Sheridan Street today if possible

Overhead tree work will be taking place today (Friday), starting at 8 a.m., and will take the entire day. The tree is located on the south side of Sheridan Street, next to the Finance House.

The south sidewalk will be closed between Center Street and River Street while this work is occurring. Through vehicle traffic will also be stopped intermittently as large limbs are lowered to the ground. Flaggers will be available to help direct traffic through this work zone, but expect delays.

It is recommended that vehicles take alternate routes to avoid this work area. Questions can be directed to Plant Services at plantservices@georgefox.edu. Thank you!

Join conversation on the ‘virtue of faith’ this Wednesday night

This Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105, the School of Theology has the distinct pleasure of hosting what promises to be a lively and engaging conversation between George Fox professor Phil Smith and Frederick Bauerschmidt, a professor of theology at Loyola University, on the virtue of faith.

Smith and Bauerschmidt will discuss the virtue of faith – what it is and why it matters – from not just their own distinct disciplines, but also by drawing explicitly from their Quaker and Catholic perspectives, respectively.

The night will be informal and geared toward the questions and concerns of those present. We hope to see you there! Chapel credit is available for students.

Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Formlabs 3D Printer

3D printers are great for creating anything you can imagine! The Maker Hub is home to multiple 3D printers, including the Formlabs Form 2 3D printer.

This model is a third-generation desktop 3D printer that boasts a wide range of features, including a new peeling mechanism, heated tank, touchscreen display, wireless controls, and an automated resin system. Check out this video to see how it works.

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (including non-engineers). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

We are so thrilled to officially welcome our new members into our George Fox chapter of the Sigma Zeta Honor Society by hosting an all-in-one induction ceremony and movie night on Thursday, Feb. 17.

The induction ceremony will start at 7 p.m. in EHS 102, followed by a showing of Hidden Figures with root beer floats and popcorn. All students are welcome, and feel free to stay for however long you can!
