All invited to Forum on Faith and Sexuality this Monday and Tuesday

Thursday, March 10th, 2022

The Cultural Enterprise invites the entire campus community to a Forum on Faith and Sexuality on Monday and Tuesday, March 14-15, in Canyon Commons.

The two-day event features three widely acclaimed authors: Wesley Hill, Eve Tushnet and Nancy Pearcey. Our hope is to provide stimulus for thoughtful dialogue with pressing questions of human sexuality and Christian faith through the testimony and ideas of these presenters.

There will be three keynotes as well as a panel, all with opportunities for engagement from the audience. Obviously these questions are complex and discussion of them increasingly fraught, but our hope is to demonstrate Christlike concern for people and truth.

Here is the schedule:

  • Monday, March 14, 7 p.m.: Wesley Hill
  • Tuesday, March 15, 1:30 p.m.: Eve Tushnet
  • Tuesday, March 15, 7 p.m.: Nancy Pearcey, followed by panel featuring all three speakers

Have questions? Contact Sarah Taylor at taylors@georgefox.edu.

Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Plasma Cutter

Thursday, March 10th, 2022

You can’t cut steel with safety scissors, but you can use a plasma cutter! The Maker Hub’s Miller Plasma Cutter is a useful and time-saving tool. It uses a plasma arc and compressed air to cut through electrically conductive metals such as steel and aluminum.

This machine will cut up to 7/8″ mild steel at 10 inches per minute and can roughly sever up to 1-1/4″ plate. The torch is hand controlled so you can cut many types of designs. You can use a straight edge or material as a guide to cut various shapes and lines.

For more information, check out the Maker Hub’s Wiki Page. Check out this video to learn how it works!

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.

Sign up for this week’s ‘Get Cultured’ presentation

Wednesday, March 9th, 2022

Tuesday, March 8th, 2022

How does Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s hopeful, reconciling and redemptive leadership – as exhibited in his acclaimed Letter from Birmingham Jail, written in 1963 – reverberate today?

On Tuesday, March 15, all are invited to a free special presentation, “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” presented by Scott Finnie, PhD, a King scholar and faculty member in Eastern Washington University’s Africana Education Program and Department of History since 1992. Preceding the talk will be a Steinfeldt Peace Scholars Symposium from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in the Hoover lobby, where current upperclass students committed to peace studies will exhibit their projects.

The event is being sponsored by George Fox’s Center for Peace and Justice, which is also providing refreshments.
