Come listen to the George Fox Jazz Band and University Jazz Combo playing charts that celebrate the centennials of jazz masters Milt Jackson, Tito Puente, Wes Montgomery and Thad Jones. This event is free and open to the public! It’s sure to be a hit!

The Jazz @ 100! Concert will be held in Bauman Auditorium this Friday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m.

Hear Nicole Enzinger present this year’s Fall Faculty Lecture on Oct. 24

Daniel Kang and the Faculty Development Committee invite you to join them for the Fall Faculty Lecture at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Hoover 105. Associate Professor of Education Nicole Enzinger, PhD, winner of the 2022-23 Faculty Achievement Award for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship, will be our featured speaker.

Nicole will speak on the topic “Beauty and Joy in Mathematics: An Unconventional Perspective.” The university and surrounding community are invited to attend. Please join us as we hear about her research on children’s cognition of numbers, and explore the beauty and joy in mathematics!

Participate in The Great Oregon ShakeOut earthquake drill on Oct. 19

All are invited to participate in The Great Oregon ShakeOut, an annual event that gives everyone the opportunity to practice how to be safe during an earthquake. This Thursday, Oct. 19, George Fox will take a few minutes to participate in the largest-ever earthquake drill at 10:19 a.m.

The city of Newberg will be testing large water meters on campus today and tomorrow. During the test, which may last 15 to 30 minutes, your water flow may be reduced or shut off completely.

Here is the testing schedule:

American Civil War historian from Princeton University speaks on campus tomorrow night

President Robin Baker invites you to hear from American Civil War historian and author Dr. Allen C. Guelzo tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. in Canyon Commons. He will give a free lecture entitled, “Why Do We Remember the Civil War?”

Dr. Guelzo  is one of our nation’s most accomplished Civil War historians, and one of the country’s foremost Lincoln scholars. He is a New York Times best-selling author and one of Power Line’s “100 Top Professors in America.”

He serves as senior research scholar in the Council of the Humanities and director of the Initiative on Politics and Statesmanship in the James Madison Program at Princeton University.

Richter Scholar proposals are due Oct. 23

The Richter Scholars program at George Fox distributes funds to support student research/project activities that are devised, initiated, and carried out by individual student researchers, with mentorship, guidance and expertise provided by a faculty mentor.

If you are interested in doing a research/project next summer, connect with a faculty mentor now so they can help you with your proposal. The deadline for proposals is Monday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m.

Hadlock Student Center’s hours will NOT be modified for the mid-semester break tomorrow (Friday). This weekend, our hours will be:

  • Friday: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday: 2 to 10 p.m.

Recieve suicide prevention training with Sources of Strength Club on Oct. 21

Our Sources of Strength training with licensed state trainers will be on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Roberts 117. This is a fun, engaging training focused on the goals and methods for upstream, positive, strengths-based suicide prevention. Everybody is welcome to join!

We will be providing lunch to all who RSVP to this form by Wednesday, Oct. 18.
