Celebrate Hadlock Student Center’s first anniversary

The School of Physical Therapy is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the shoulder. If you have a problem with your shoulder or upper arm, our lab is the place to be!

Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to care for your condition. Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at the Roberts Center.

Guest speakers discuss Constitution this week

The politics department invites the university community to a pair of Constitution Day lectures this week.

Bradley Watson, the Philip M. McKenna Chair in American and Western Political Thought and co-director of the Center for Political and Economic Thought at Saint Vincent College, will speak tonight (Monday) on the topic “The Living Constitution and the Decline of the Rule of Law.”

Later this week, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, David Nammo, executive director and CEO of the Christian Legal Society since 2012, will speak on “Religious Liberty and the Rule of Law.”

Join the Health and Human Performance Department this Wednesday, Sept. 18, as we host guest speaker Leonard Kaminsky, director of the Fisher Institute for Health and Well-Being at Ball State University.

Kaminsky will give a presentation on the benefits of physical fitness, specifically the role fitness plays in one’s health and longevity. The presentation will start at 3 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Gather for art exhibition opening tonight

The Minthorne Gallery is hosting an exhibition titled “Graphic Resistance” by Carlos Barberena beginning tonight (Monday) and running through Friday, Oct. 25.

The exhibition will open with a talk by the artist at Chehalem Cultural Center from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight (Monday). A reception will follow in the Minthorne Gallery in the Hoover Academic Building from 7 to 8 p.m.

Barberena is known for his satirical relief prints and the use of images from pop culture, as well as from political and cultural tragedies. He is a Nicaraguan self-taught printmaker based in Chicago, where he runs the printmaking projects Bandolero Press and La Calaca Press. He is also a member of the Instituto Gráfico de Chicago.

Bruin Card is now Bruin Discounts

In an effort to bring you even more great local discounts, the Bruin Card has been moved to a digital format and is now Bruin Discounts.

It can be found by logging in on igfu.georgefox.edu, a mobile version of MyGeorgeFox. Once logged in, you will find Bruin Discounts near the top of the landing page. 

While the card only had space for 15 discounts, there are currently 22 discounts for staff, 23 for students and more on the way! Discounts only show up on your mobile device if you are eligible for them.

For those without a smartphone, please stay tuned. There will be a limited number of cards printed for your use with a web address to a page that has all of the current offers listed.

Vespers meets at 4:15 p.m. today in Stoffer Family Stadium

Bruin Community Pantry hours

  • Mondays – 8 to 11 a.m., noon to 5 p.m. 
  • Wednesdays – 8 to 10:30 a.m., 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. 
  • Thursdays - 12:30 to 5 p.m. 
  • Fridays – 1 to 4 p.m. 

The food bank will be closed during university holidays.

The Bruin Den will be open from 7:30 to 10 a.m. on Serve Day (Wednesday). Stop by and get coffee, pastries, or a grab-and-go before heading off-campus. Another option is to purchase a bag for $6 to go through the sack lunch lines on the quad.

The Bruin Bites and Bridge Cafe will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday). All cafes resume regular hours of operation on Thursday, Sept. 12.
