Prepare to welcome Scholarship Summit guests tomorrow

Wednesday, January 29th, 2025

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be hosting Scholarship Summit on campus tomorrow (Friday). With around 500 visitors expected on campus, we are asking George Fox students and employees to help extend the Be Known promise throughout the day. Here’s what you can keep in mind.

  • Use street parking instead of campus parking lots. Guests will be arriving on campus Friday morning between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m. and will fill all the main campus parking lots.
  • Be mindful of guests in your housing area. We will have housing tours circulating through Edwards, Gulley, Pennington, HMS, and Newlin from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tour groups will be viewing dorm lobbies and a room on the first floor of each dorm.
  • Plan for Canyon Commons to be busier than usual. Guests will be going through the main servery line. If you see a family looking for a spot to sit, invite them to join you!

For questions email visit@georgefox.edu or call Lauren Hill at 503-554-2245.

Return unneeded textbooks to the bookstore by tomorrow

Welcome Scholarship Summit guests by using alternative parking lots

Tuesday, January 28th, 2025

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be hosting Scholarship Summit on campus this Friday and next, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7. With over 500 admitted students and their guests expected on campus each weekend, we are asking George Fox students and employees to consider parking in alternative parking lots to ensure enough parking for visitors in the Stevens, Hoover, and Bauman lots.

Alternate parking can be found in the 99W lot (Steve’s Auto), Morse lot by Plant Services, or street parking.

If you have questions, email hilll@georgefox.edu or call Lauren Hill at 503-554-2245.

Information from IT about recent phishing

Thursday, January 23rd, 2025

Thank you to all who made us aware of the most recent phishing campaign. For those unfamiliar with phishing, please see below for a quick refresher.

What to Expect

  • The phishing email may appear to be from a legitimate source or offer you something. However, it will attempt to trick you into revealing sensitive information or taking a specific action. Please note that logging into an unknown website or application will reveal your username and password to that website or application. This is one way your username and password can be stolen.

How to Identify Phishing Emails

  • Be cautious. Be wary of emails that:
    • Create a sense of urgency or panic
    • Request sensitive information
    • Have spelling or grammar errors
    • Contain suspicious links or attachments
    • Offer something too good to be true (free stuff) or ask for money
  • Verify the sender. Check the sender’s email address to ensure it is legitimate. Look for mistakes in spelling or grammar, and be cautious of unfamiliar senders.
  • Don’t click. Never click on links or attachments from suspicious emails. Instead, contact the sender directly to verify their identity.
  • Don’t respond. And don’t ever give an unknown person any money!

What to Do

    1. Mark as spam. If you receive a phishing email, mark it as spam immediately.
    2. Report to IT. Forward the email to our IT department at servicedesk@georgefox.edu so we can investigate and block future messages.
    3. Reach out to the sender through a different channel than how you were contacted, to ask about the legitimacy.

Your Cooperation

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, email servicedesk@georgefox.edu.

Be cautious in icy conditions this week

Tuesday, January 21st, 2025

You may have noticed that temperatures are expected to drop into the middle and upper 20s overnight this week, causing ice to possibly form on surfaces. Please be extra cautious of slippery conditions in parking lots, stairways and shaded areas.

Here are some helpful tips for walking safely on icy surfaces.

Review safety protocol for e-mobility devices

Tuesday, January 21st, 2025

As part of our commitment to campus safety, we want to ensure all personal transportation devices, including bicycles, skateboards and e-mobility devices, are used responsibly. All devices must be operated respectfully on roads and sidewalks only, with operators yielding to pedestrians and using courteous communication when approaching. For everyone’s safety, all devices may not be ridden inside campus buildings, and riders should keep wheels on the ground at all times.

University policy supports the safe and respectful use of e-mobility devices around campus. E-mobility devices, such as e-scooters, e-bikes and hoverboards, should be ridden at slower speeds, especially in pedestrian-heavy areas.

To mitigate fire risks, indoor charging and storage of these devices are strictly prohibited in accordance with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue guidelines, institutional insurance requirements, and Oregon state law. Riding, storing or charging these devices inside campus buildings is forbidden. Devices must not block fire exits, stairways or emergency access areas and should be parked only at designated bike racks.

Remember, helmets and other safety gear are highly recommended. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping our campus safe and accessible for all!
