Join the Intercultural Resource Center and the Department of Communication and Cinematic Arts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in Hoover 105 for a screening of the film, “I Am Not Your Negro.”
Based on writer James Baldwin’s unfinished novel, “Remember This House,” this film tells the story of race in modern America and Baldwin’s interactions with civil rights leaders Medgar Evers, Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr.
There will also be a brief Q&A with Professor Steven Classen, chair of the Department of Communication and Cinematic Arts and author of “Watching Jim Crow: The Struggles Over Mississippi TV.” Published by Duke University Press, Classen’s work received the 2004 McGannon Center Award for Social and Ethical Relevance in Communication Policy Research.

Psychologist Carl Jung coined the term “shadow†to refer to the parts of ourselves we hide, repress and deny. Robert Bly called the shadow “the long bag we drag behind us.†We place all that would cause us pain and conflict into the bag, but it holds incredible power to transform our lives, relationships and communities.
On Friday, Feb. 18, join Michael Simmons for an online course, “Companioning Our Shadow: Emotions & Relationships.” Simmons will explore practices and tools for companioning our shadow, particularly surrounding our emotions and how they impact our relationships. This course is a space to invite Christ to meet our hidden parts and deepen the healing process.
Simmons is a spiritual director and retreat facilitator, and he serves on the leadership team with Companioning Center and the board of Deep Water, a local community that provides tools, processes and sacred space for women and men to heal.
Simmons is a doctoral student at Portland Seminary and an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church. The course will be offered via Zoom from 9 to 11 a.m. The cost is $39, and the Zoom link will be provided. You can register here if you’re interested.
Questions? Contact Simmons at msimmons@georgefox.edu.

Life Groups will also be SPIL-credit eligible to encourage students to engage in high-quality spiritual formation experiences that are participatory and offer ongoing community.
We welcome employees, current seniors, graduate students, alumni, family members of George Fox employees and students, and members of our wonderful local churches to consider leading a group. To sign up, please fill out this form.
