The PsyD program is offering simulated psychotherapy sessions with our first-year student therapists. If you are interested, please complete this form by tomorrow (Friday).
This experience is designed for students who want to learn more about themselves and want space to explore topics like problems with family or friends, sadness or anxiety, or some of the challenges and adjustments to college.
This experience is not the best fit for students who are dealing with severe depression, suicidal intent, eating disorders, or significant substance abuse problems. (We encourage students with these concerns to contact the Health and Counseling Center at 503-554-2340). If you are unsure if this session is right for you, feel free to sign up and we will link you with the proper service.

Come hear Mustafa Akyol’s talk, “An Islamic Case for Freedom and Tolerance: Ancient Wisdom for a Modern Crisis,†at 6:30 p.m. this Monday, Feb. 21, in Hoover 105.
Mustafa is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute’s Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity, a frequent opinion writer for The New York Times, and the author of multiple books, including Reopening Muslim Minds: A Return to Reason, Freedom, and Tolerance (2021). The talk is free and open to the general public.

Halberstadt taught at Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle and has performed with jazz luminaries Herb Ellis, Dee Daniels, Bobby Shew, Joe LaBarbera, and many more. He will be performing with the university’s jazz ensemble and faculty jazz combo.
In addition to the concert, Halberstadt is doing a public presentation on Thursday from 4:15 to 5 p.m. in Ross 208. All are invited to attend.

What emotion often disrupts your life, negatively impacts those closest to you, or keeps you from experiencing intimacy in relationships? Is it paralyzing fear, red-hot anger, or deep sadness? Our emotions offer vitality for life, but we must learn to listen, feel, and befriend them.
This Friday, Feb. 18, join Michael Simmons for an online course, “Companioning Our Shadow: Emotions & Relationships.†Michael will explore practices and tools for encountering Christ in our shadow, and bring wholeness to our emotional life.
Michael is a spiritual director and retreat facilitator, and serves on the Companioning Center leadership team. He is a doctoral student at Portland Seminary, and an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church.
The course is offered virtually via Zoom from 9 to 11 a.m. The cost is $39, and the Zoom link will be provided. You can register here.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105, the School of Theology has the distinct pleasure of hosting what promises to be a lively and engaging conversation between George Fox professor Phil Smith and Frederick Bauerschmidt, a professor of theology at Loyola University, on the virtue of faith.
Smith and Bauerschmidt will discuss the virtue of faith – what it is and why it matters – from not just their own distinct disciplines, but also by drawing explicitly from their Quaker and Catholic perspectives, respectively.
The night will be informal and geared toward the questions and concerns of those present. We hope to see you there! Chapel credit is available for students.

Hey D&D nerds! This week, we’re hosting two fun workshops – one for players and one for Dungeon Masters!
For the players, this week’s topic is “Intro to Spellcasting.” We’re here to not only provide you with a crash course on how spells work in D&D, but also to answer those questions that you have. Join us from 6 to 7 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 18, in Hoover 211 to gain some magical skills.
Every Monday we also host our DM workshop! Even if you just have a couple of questions, stop on by Hoover 211 at 8 p.m. to get them answered!

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recently made recommendations to improve primary care, two of which were to build interprofessional care teams and community-based training programs. We at the university’s Interprofessional Primary Care Institute have decided to do both.

Overhead tree work will be taking place today (Friday), starting at 8 a.m., and will take the entire day. The tree is located on the south side of Sheridan Street, next to the Finance House.
The south sidewalk will be closed between Center Street and River Street while this work is occurring. Through vehicle traffic will also be stopped intermittently as large limbs are lowered to the ground. Flaggers will be available to help direct traffic through this work zone, but expect delays.
