With around 700 visitors expected on campus, we are asking students and employees to consider parking in alternative parking lots to ensure enough parking for visitors in the Stevens, Hoover, and Bauman lots. Submit Fox360 alerts for traditional undergraduates

Sunday, January 22nd, 2023

If you have concerns about a student in the traditional undergraduate program, log into Fox360 at Fox360.georgefox.edu to submit an “alert” for the student. Submit alerts for concerns in the following areas:

  • Academic: Missing multiple classes; consistently poor academic performance
  • Behavioral: Concerning or disruptive behaviors in or outside of class, missing work
  • Emotional: Mental health concerns; unusual emotional expression
  • Physical: Medical concerns; extreme changes in grooming, personal care
  • Social: Personal, social, or family concerns that are affecting well-being and performance

If a student is enrolled in your course but hasn’t attended class or engaged in GFD online activity, submit an alert. Student employee supervisors and other non-faculty are invited to submit alerts with concerns for the reasons above. We trust those submitting an alert have attempted to make contact, and either have not been able to connect with the student or believe additional outreach is needed.

The Student Support Network will assign a case manager to follow up with students. Case managers will do our best to give updates to faculty and employees who submit alerts or provide feedback. You are welcome to contact Jere Witherspoon (jwithers@georgefox.edu) or me to inquire about the status of a student.

This Fox360 Quick Guide provides a visual overview of the Fox360 system; more details about using Fox360 are available in this Google Doc.

If you have questions or would like more information regarding Fox360, contact Rick Muthiah at 503-554-2314 or rmuthiah@georgefox.edu.

Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Turnstiles

Thursday, January 19th, 2023

Don’t confuse the Maker Hub with Hadlock when you check out the Hub’s new turnstiles! Everyone is now expected to scan their George Fox ID when entering and exiting through the turnstiles.

The turnstile installation is a part of the Maker Hub’s data collection initiative. Data collected from the turnstiles will help us acquire funding for new equipment and develop the space. This will also help track usage trends to better serve our current user base and inform our marketing efforts.

Compliance with the turnstiles benefits everyone because it creates more opportunities for further development of the Maker Hub. For more information, check out the Maker Hub’s Wiki Page.

If you have any questions or would like to get connected, please email makerhub@georgefox.edu.

Sign up for spring break trips to assist with disaster recovery

Thursday, January 19th, 2023

Aiming to learn and serve alongside partners in proximity to disaster relief, recovery and development efforts, the Office for Spiritual Life is recruiting a group of eight to 12 students to spend spring break in Whatcom County, Washington, and work alongside World Renew DRS partners in the area from the Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group.

Whatcom County is the home of the Nooksack River, which had historic flooding in November 2021. (Read more about the flooding here and see a short video here.)

To cultivate spiritual growth-rich environments for students, our partners and the communities we serve, we engage participants in daily rhythms of solitude, prayer, shared cooking/meals, meaningful service and learning, Bible study, worship, individual and team reflection, immersion in outdoor nature and local cultures, recreation, and fun.

Undergraduate participants will also be eligible to gain up to five SpiL/chapel elective credits for this experience.

If there is an overabundance of interest from students and employees, an additional SpiL Trip will be added to serve World Renew partners in neighboring Okanogan County, Washington, in their continued recovery from wildfires in 2021.

George Fox employees who would like to participate in a SpiL Trip are encouraged to apply to be a SpiL trip mentor.

  • Dates: Spring break, March 25 to April 1
  • Cost per person: $175 ($50 deposit due Jan. 25)
  • Application deadline: Feb. 19
  • Mandatory training dates: 7 to 8 p.m. March 7, 14 and 21

If you’re interested in assisting Whatcom County’s recovery, sign up here.
