Bon Appetit selling holiday desserts

Want to spend more time with your family and less time in the kitchen this Thanksgiving? Let Bon Appetit do the baking for you! We will be offering our house-baked Dutch apple pie, pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate decadence for sale.

Stop by the Bruin Den, Bruin Bites or Bridge Café to pre-order your dessert. Orders must be placed and pre-paid by Monday, Nov. 21, and will be ready for pick-up on Wednesday Nov. 23. The pie is $7.25, and the cheesecake and decadence are each $15.99.

Christmas tree permit required

The holidays are around the corner, and if you are planning to put up a Christmas tree on campus please remember to fill out a Christmas Tree Permit located on this Plant Services webpage.

Please remember the requestor is responsible for purchase, installation, decorating, undercoating, watering and removal of permitted trees. Trees must be watered by department and must be removed no later than Thursday, Dec. 22. There is a $100 fine for violation of terms.

Bakers invite employees to Christmas Concert and open house Dec. 11

Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite employees to celebrate together the great mystery of Christ the Lord at the Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Employees are entitled to four complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee or a single ticket for any of the other performances (on Dec. 9 or 10). Following the concert on Sunday, employees are invited to a Christmas open house at the president’s home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 402 S. College St., in Newberg.

You can select your concert tickets online at this link (be sure to select “GFU Employee” in the drop-down menu on the page that pops up after making your seat selection). If selecting your complimentary seats for Sunday, you may disregard the note that states employees are only entitled to one ticket per event; however, you must still select “Okay, I will bring my ID to the door” in the drop-down menu.

Donation boxes set up to help Portland-area refugees

A relief effort for refugees in the Portland area begins this week!

The Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon is accepting a variety of items to distribute to Muslim families in need. It is our duty to help provide relief for those in need and welcome these people to our country in any way possible. Items needed include:

  • Lamps
  • Dishes, pots, pans and silverware
  • Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, towels, etc.)
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Bed linens, warm blankets, pillows
  • Diapers

All of these items can be dropped off either at the SpIL House or in one of the labeled boxes in the Canyon Commons. Any contributions that can be made are greatly appreciated!

Alumnus and former missionary speaks in chapel today

It is International Education Week. In recognition, our chapel guest today (Tuesday) is Vicente Pinto, a George Fox alumnus originally from California who has taught high school Spanish for the past three years. He has also been a missionary in Honduras, the United Kingdom and Kenya. Join us at 10:50 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

On Wednesday night at 7 p.m., Jamie Johnson will speak in Vespers on Romans 16.

Jeff Cameron, assistant professor of art & design, is showing his panoramic photographs in the campus’ Lindgren Gallery now through Nov. 30. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The images capture scenes of Italy from Rome to Bolzano and Florence to Milan, taken last May while he was traveling on Juniors Abroad.

Spots still open for PT’s healthy cooking class on Thursday

The School of Physical Therapy has added a healthy cooking class demonstration that will coincide with its Health and Wellness Clinic on Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Roberts Center. There are two sessions – at 5:10 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. Each session will last 30 to 35 minutes.

Free Health and Wellness Screening Clinic for faculty and staff

The School of Physical Therapy will be offering its inaugural Health and Wellness Screening Clinic this Thursday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Roberts Center, Room 202. This screening clinic utilizes innovative technology to assess one’s current state of health. Screenings are free and take about 30 minutes to complete. Click here to sign up for a screening.
