New temporary hire process now in place

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

Are you looking to hire a temporary employee and wish the hiring process could be shorter? Well, your prayers have been answered. Employee Empowerment has produced a shorter hiring timeline for new temporary hires. We can now get a new temporary employee hired in as few as 48 hours.

Please use the supervisor checklist to ensure you are expediting each step of the process, and make the Recruiting and Onboarding Data Wiki page a favorite to access recruiting and onboarding tools.

As always, I am a resource and available to answer your questions. Please reach out any time if you need help.

Hadlock Student Center information meeting is today

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

In a few short weeks, the Hadlock Student Center will open with a number of new programs and services for students and employees. We are excited to share this beautiful new facility with the campus community and wanted to provide a venue to share more about our vision for this space and answer any questions you might have.

The final information session is scheduled for today (Wednesday) from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Canyon Commons meeting rooms. Light refreshments will be served.

We hope you will join us! Contact Rob Simpson (simpsonr@georgefox.edu) with questions.

Newly Updated Fitness Center Information

Monday, July 30th, 2018

We trust you are excited about the new Hadlock Student Center (HSC)! Assuming everything continues on schedule, the fitness center portion of the facility will be open with limited hours (tentatively 4 to 9 p.m.) beginning Monday, Aug. 27 (anticipated grand opening and full hours will begin Monday, Sept. 3). This is subject to change if there are unexpected delays in construction.

If you use the fitness center in Wheeler, you’ll notice most of the space has been cleared in anticipation of remodeling it for athletics’ use since the HSC will be opening soon. Due to this upcoming remodeling of the Wheeler fitness center space, some equipment has been moved into the adjacent dance studio space (Wheeler 211) for general student and employee use until the HSC opens. The squat racks are also still available for use and are in their original spot.

There are more limited hours for this interim space in Wheeler, as it will now be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed Saturday and Sunday). We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience during this transitional period and trust that the new space in the HSC will make it worth the wait!

Questions? Contact Rob Simpson (simpsonr@georgefox.edu) regarding the HSC or Adam Puckett (apuckett@georgefox.edu) regarding the Wheeler Sports Center space.

Host families needed for international students during orientation in mid-August

Monday, July 30th, 2018

This fall, George Fox is expecting a number of international students to join our student body. Their first point of contact with the school is international student orientation, which begins a week before the general new student orientation.

Our desire is to place all our incoming international students with host families during international orientation. What better first impression could they get than to experience the hospitality of an American Christian family? The students will be attending orientation sessions during the day but need a place to stay during the nights.

Would you be willing to host a new international student? The students will be arriving on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16 and be in orientation for a week. If our undergraduate students stayed on campus during this time, they would not be staying with their American roommates. Graduate students would not live on campus at all.

If interested, please contact Alex Pia (apia@georgefox.edu) for more information.

The completion of this form is required for anyone desiring the president (and spouse) be present and/or participate at an event.

We appreciate your patience with scheduling the president’s complex calendar. The link to the form can also be found on the President’s Office contact page and will be posted on the “Resources for Current Employees” and “Resources for Faculty” pages as well.

Access road closed during construction

Friday, July 27th, 2018

The access road that runs in between Gulley Hall, Brandt Hall and Le Shana Hall is now closed for construction of the new residence hall. Access to the Le Shana parking lot is from Fulton St. only. Access to the North St. parking lot for staff and graduate students will continue to be from Villa St. via North St. Pedestrian access between the Le Shana and North St. parking lots is still accessible.

Important Fitness Center Information

Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

Only weeks remain before the opening of the new Hadlock Student Center (HSC)! Assuming everything continues on schedule, the fitness center portion of the facility will be open with limited hours (tentatively 4 to 9 p.m.) beginning Monday, Aug. 27, so that student staff can be adequately trained on the new equipment and protocols (anticipated grand opening and full hours will begin Monday, Sept. 3). This is subject to change if there are unexpected delays in construction.

If you use the current fitness center in Wheeler, you’ll notice that much of the older equipment has been moved out. Sometime in August, the large portion of the space will be remodeled for athletics’ use in light of the addition of women and men’s swimming and the continued growth in the number of student-athletes (currently 20 percent of our undergraduate student population). The smaller portion of the current facility (the free weight area) will be remodeled into a classroom during the fall semester.

Please note that because of remodeling and construction of new space, there will likely be a two- to three-week time frame in August when there will be no fitness center available for general campus use. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience for those who are regularly using this space and trust that the new space in the Hadlock Student Center will make it worth the wait!

Questions? Contact Brad Lau at blau@georgefox.edu.
