Get tips on how to navigate switch to Daylight Saving Time

Sunday, March 10th, 2024

With the arrival of Daylight Saving Time, be aware that, each year, the time change causes numerous injuries. Most individuals get about 40 minutes to one hour less sleep during the first several days of the change. This raises the probability of a workplace injury for three out of 100 individuals. Here are some tips to make the transition a little easier.

Daylight Saving Time is also a good time to check smoke or carbon monoxide detectors. Remember to inspect and restock your first aid kit at home or in your vehicle.

If you have any questions, contact Kim Knoernschild, our environmental health and safety specialist, at kknoernschild@georgefox.edu.

All veterans are invited to join George Fox Veterans Club coffee meetup

Wednesday, March 6th, 2024

All veterans are welcome to attend our coffee meetup! Our young vet attendees are primarily made up of George Fox students. We also have several veterans who served in World War ll, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf Wars, and all the skirmishes in between.

We meet every Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Nut Tree Ranch Community Building at 2902 East 2nd St., in Newberg.

This is a place where all veterans are understood. It is a place of peace and a time to share stories. The coffee is generously donated by Caravan Coffee. Please come for a time of sharing a cup of bliss and to rub shoulders with your brothers and sisters.

We have seen a really great core of George Fox veterans be able to feel at home and get involved in other veteran community events each week. Please join us!

This event is sponsored by the Vet2Vet Center in partnership with the George Fox Veterans Club. If you are a son or daughter of a veteran or have relatives in your family you could qualify for scholarships.

Transform old plastic into wallets and more with Arts & Crafts and Stewards of Sustainability clubs Saturday

Wednesday, March 6th, 2024

Everyday essentials like grocery bags, food and drink wrappers, Ziplock bags, and packaging add up to a lot of plastic discarded each day! While a small portion of this ends up recycled, most of it winds up in the landfill where it will stay for hundreds of years and never completely decompose.

In the spirit of “reduce, reuse, recycle,” the Arts & Crafts Club and Stewards of Sustainability Club are hosting an upcycling event where we will have a few crafts to create art out of old materials! We will gather from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 9, in Brougher Hall.

Projects will include:

  • Transforming old plastic packaging into functional wallets, pencil pouches, and jewelry
  • Turning plastic grocery bags into yarn for knitting and crocheting
  • Using wood scraps to build a bug hotel for the Stewards of Sustainability Club’s garden

All are welcome to join! If you are interested in this event, please sign up here and start collecting (clean) plastic trash to bring!

Feel free to reach out to Lilly McAfee at lmcafee19@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.
