By now, most of you have set up multi-factor authentication that you use when accessing login.georgefox.edu. Here are a couple things that you may want to know:
- Voice call authentication allows you to receive a phone call and hear a code. Calls can be easily forwarded from your office phone to any other phone number.
- When you get a new phone, you may not be able to authenticate. This disruption will keep you from accessing your email, Canvas or other items accessed at login.georgefox.edu. This could be particularly problematic when the Service Desk is closed.
We recommend that you set up more than one method of authentication. There are four methods available:
- Okta Verify
- Google Authenticator
- SMS authentication
- Voice call authentication
If you use Okta Verify or Google Authenticator, use SMS or voice call as a second option. Both Okta Verify and Google Authenticator apps will transfer to your new phone, but the account settings will not transfer over.
Questions regarding multi-factor authentication? Contact the Service Desk at servicedesk@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2569.

It’s that time of year again, and unsold fall textbooks are being returned to their publishers.
If faculty members have titles that will be used later in the semester, they should urge students to purchase those books now. No one enjoys coming in for a late-used title and discovering it was sent back weeks ago.

Prominent Christian political commentator and attorney David French will issue a call for robust civility in politics at a free presentation in Bauman Auditorium at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1. The talk, entitled “Jesus Loves Your Political Enemies, and America Needs You to Love Them Too,†is available via a Zoom stream; those who attend in person are required to wear masks.
French is a senior editor at The Dispatch and a columnist for Time magazine. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he served as a lecturer at Cornell Law School. After law school, he practiced law with a focus on religious liberty issues.
He advises Christians not to wait for our political leaders to fix America’s drift toward bitter division and addresses the polarization and alienation metastasizing in our communities and in politics at every level, both nationally and locally. French’s most recent book is “Divided We Fall: America’s Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation.”
The event is being hosted by the George Fox Civility Project, an initiative launched during the 2020-21 academic year out of concern about the polarization and alienation in political culture at every level (national, state and local). It sponsors events, publishes a newsletter and maintains a website with information about civility.
For more information, contact Civility Project director Ron Mock at civility@georgefox.edu.

The School of Theology and the IDEA Center have designated Nov. 1-5 as a Week of Discerning Vocation and Occupation at George Fox University.
The calling of every believer is to be a follower of Jesus (our vocation), and the means of making a living should involve the ways in which we are the best disciples possible (our occupation).
These issues will be explored meaningfully over coffee and conversation with author and Murdock senior fellow Steven Garber, who will discuss “Purpose into Practice” from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Hoover 103. Refreshments will be provided.
The following day, IDEA Center Director Logan Walton will present “Calling, Vocation, and Purpose: Why am I Here and Where am I Going?” The event will take place in Bauman Auditorium from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5.
Garber’s presence is made possible by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Spiritual Life credit is available for both events.
If you have any questions, email Paul Anderson at panderso@georgefox.edu.
