As a reminder, a number of changes have taken place in the Learning Support Services area during the past six months.
Rick Muthiah, director of Learning Support Services, continues to oversee several areas related to high-risk students. These include the Academic Success program, Fox360, academic mentors, and collaboration with other units to promote student success.
Andrea Byerley, assistant director of Disability & Accessibility Services, has primary responsibility for working with students and faculty around accommodation needs. She is also leading initiatives to increase student and faculty engagement on disability-related topics. Contact Byerley to discuss specific student situations or course/program accessibility.
Hannah Jackson, coordinator for the Academic Resource Center (ARC), is providing leadership for the ARC, Open Study Table, Portland Writing Center (PWC), and Textbook Assistance Fund. Connect with Jackson to discuss classroom visits by ARC/PWC consultants, required ARC/PWC appointments for your students, or other ideas for promoting student learning through peer support.
Reach out to Muthiah at rmuthiah@georgefox.edu if you have questions or are unsure of the right person to address a topic.

Did you know the IDEA Center offers assistance to students with their resumes, LinkedIn profiles and cover letters? These three items are extremely important in preparation for successfully applying to jobs and internships.
If you know any students who would benefit from these services, please direct them to Handshake, where they can make an appointment with Wade Witherspoon, the employee relations manager, or Karis Lee, the career coach intern.
Witherspoon is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. He can also meet at other times based on a student’s request. Lee is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., as well as Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m.
Students can also take advantage of another beneficial resource the IDEA Center provides called Quinccia. This is an AI resume scanner that can test a student’s resume and see if it would pass ATS software many companies use today. After the resume is scanned, the platform provides students with improvement tips to be more successful in the future. Students can sign in to Quinccia with their George Fox login.
If you have any questions, contact the IDEA Center at idea@georgefox.edu.

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is here to help students with writing, study skills, test-taking strategies, time management, and more. Here’s what you can do to help your students get off to a strong start this semester:
- Include the ARC syllabus statement provided on the Faculty Online Resources site
- Talk about the ARC during your classes (before major papers are due)
- Recommend academic coaching as a way to get support with accountability, time management, study skills, and more
- Consider requiring a visit to the ARC for one of your papers. If you are requiring a visit, please email Hannah Jackson (hjackson@georgefox.edu) to make sure the ARC schedule and consultants are prepared to meet your students’ needs.
The ARC will be offering an in-class visit with an ARC consultant for a five-minute presentation about the ARC to answer your students’ questions.
If you have any questions or are interested in having an ARC consultant visit your class, contact Hannah Jackson at hjackson@georgefox.edu.
