Join us in Hadlock tonight (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. for our second exercise coaching seminar! Kyle Herzberg will be teaching participants how to maximize their at-home and in-the-gym bodyweight workouts.

Subtopics will include the benefits and drawbacks of bodyweight exercising, as well as how to properly achieve progressive overload with limited resources.

The George Fox University orchestra and choirs invite you to enjoy selections from Handel’s Messiah at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, in Bauman Auditorium.

With a special focus on the Holy Week portions of this master work, a student soloist, three choirs and our orchestra will prepare your heart for Easter! Our concerto competition winner, Alison Evans, will also be featured.

All are invited to listen to our biochemistry faculty candidate, Pam Beilby, present her research at 2 p.m. today (Monday) in Hoover 105. Her talk is titled “Glutathione and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).”

Glutathione is the primary non-enzymatic antioxidant in mitochondria. Mitochondrial function, as well as the mitochondrial pool of glutathione, diminishes significantly with age and in many disease states, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Traditional efforts to elevate cellular glutathione levels typically raise cytosolic levels, but fail to impact the mitochondrial pool of glutathione. To address this limitation, we have designed glutathione derivatives conjugated to a triphenylphosphonium moiety to enhance delivery directly to mitochondria.

Join us tomorrow (Tuesday) to hear engineering faculty candidate David Garner present an overview of the Air Force Research Laboratory and his experience discovering and establishing international research collaborations in aerospace materials and structures across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Garner will discuss current research topics and trends, as well as how to seek grants from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. His presentation is scheduled in EHS 102 from 3 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Synopsis
Maya, Nadia and Leen, three best friends from college, are now living their mid-20s dreams in suburban Chicago. Leen is a fashion designer who owns a fashion boutique. Maya works as an office assistant in a dental office, and Nadia is a teacher at a local Montessori school.

Life after college isn’t what any of the women expected, but what unites them in their struggles is their love for ice cream, their penchant for laughter, and their commitment to wearing their hijabs as a reflection of their faithfulness to God. Unfortunately, their lives are upended when their mosque is desecrated by locals from the community. Their responses to this event change the course of their lives.

Is that small sewing kit your parents sent you to college with not cutting in anymore? Have no fear, the Maker Hub has multiple machines to solve your sewing needs, including the Janome Serger.

The Janome Serger performs a type of stitch known as the overlock stitch, a type of stitching that sews over the edge of one or more pieces of fabric. Sergers also have the ability to cut off the excess edge as it is fed through the machine. This type of stitching is useful for edging, hemming and seaming. This process will create a clean edge of your fabric that will not fray.

The Janome MyLock 634D allows you to easily switch from overlock stitching to rolled hemming without needing to change the needle plate. Some of the key features include a tension release device, easily accessible lower looper guides, a changeable thread guide, easily retractable upper knife, adjustable foot pressure, and more.

We in athletics are hosting a “Be The Match” donor drive on Tuesday, April 5, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Marin Isaak, wife of Dale Isaak, longtime head athletic trainer at George Fox, is in need of a marrow transplant. You could be her match!

If you are between the ages of 18 and 40, stop by our tables in Canyon Commons to get your cheek swabbed to see if your tissue type matches Marin or anyone in the database. The most common type of donation is non-surgical.
