Some parking changes to be aware of

Monday, August 22nd, 2022

Welcome back to Fox! If you will be parking on campus, there are a few changes you should be aware of.

  • The Pennington (Penn) parking lot and the River Street lot will only be available to students who have a Penn parking permit. No other residents or commuters will be allowed to park there.
  • The row of parking spaces facing Sheridan street in the Stevens lot has been converted to student parking and will be reserved for resident and commuter permit holders. There are 22 spaces.
  • Overflow parking for staff and students will be available at the Highway 99 lot, which is right next to Steve’s Automotive. Do not park in spaces marked off for Steve’s Automotive.
  • Remember the Morse lot, near the baseball fields, on the north side of campus is also another option for overflow parking.

Any questions? Call the Campus Public Safety office at 503-554-2090.

‘The Daily Bruin’s’ posting policy clarified

Sunday, August 21st, 2022

For those of you who are new, welcome to George Fox! The Daily Bruin newsletter is your forum to get important updates about university-related news, upcoming events and policies.

This forum does not serve as a “public bulletin board” for the Newberg or Portland-area communities, nor as an outlet to advertise personal businesses or events. All content must have a direct connection to George Fox in some way in order to qualify for inclusion.

If you have any questions about the posting policy, contact Sean Patterson at spatterson@georgefox.edu.

Be aware of construction areas as you walk around campus

Sunday, August 21st, 2022

The campus is abuzz with activities as we begin to lay the groundwork for our new art annex and chapel. Various construction zones will interrupt and change what we have come to expect as we walk through campus.

As faculty, staff, students and neighbors, we all share a responsibility for our personal safety around campus, especially in those areas where construction traffic will be most prevalent. Please review these construction zone safety tips.

If you have any safety concerns or questions, please reach out to Kim Knoernschild, our environmental health and safety specialist, at kknoernschild@georgefox.edu.

Call for stationery orders

Sunday, August 21st, 2022

Now is the time to order university stationery. The collective order helps keep costs low – the higher the volume, the lower the cost. Consequently, it is most economical to overestimate needs and store a small surplus.

I will be accepting orders through Friday, Sept. 12. For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterhead”) through the university’s Office of Mail Services.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,
– Emily Perry (eperry@georgefox.edu)

Swing by Minthorne Gallery during final two days of ‘Once Was Mud’ exhibit

Wednesday, August 17th, 2022

Minthorne Gallery’s “Once Was Mud” exhibition remains open for two more days! Don’t miss this wood-fired ceramics show featuring over a dozen local artists working in clay.

This exhibition initially came together as a retrospective of former Art and Design Chair and Professor Mark Terry, and in true “Mark fashion,” it transformed into a celebration of his ceramics community. Enjoy viewing works by Mark, many of his former colleagues, friends, students and family!

With over 80 art objects to view, it is a robust representation of our regional ceramics scene. The show is up today (Thursday) and tomorrow, and can be visited between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Contact Chandler Brutscher at cbrutscher@georgefox.edu with any questions.

Please fill out Serve Day form to help in planning the day

Wednesday, August 17th, 2022

Each fall, George Fox closes for one day to allow employees and students to serve surrounding communities. The tradition began in 1999 and continues to grow in scope and magnitude each year.

Serve Day is an important part of the life of our community, as it contributes to our mission to inspire students to serve with passion. After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, we are excited to once again host Serve Day. This year, Serve Day will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

In order to make everything run smoothly, we need some information from you about your preferences, limitations, and ability to help with logistics. Please complete this form, which shouldn’t take any more than three minutes of your time. (Completion of this form is required for all Newberg employees.)

This form is essential to our planning, so we ask that you fill out the form as soon as possible, as we are already far along in the process.

Contact Kenna Coffee at mcoffee@georgefox.edu with any questions.

Use 25Live to reserve Pavilion & Fire Pit

Sunday, August 14th, 2022

Did you know the Pavilion & Fire Pit is available for all employees and students to reserve and use for organized events? The Pavilion & Fire Pit, located in the canyon next to the Carey Residence Hall, provides a beautiful setting and comfortable event space for about 50 participants.

To use this area, a confirmed reservation with a fire-use permit is required. Submit your request through 25Live; you schedule this location just like a room. You’ll receive an email confirmation with the fire-use permit once your request has been approved. Print a copy or have the permit handy to display on a mobile device during your event.

At the end of your event, properly extinguish the fire. We appreciate your diligence in using the 25Live campus scheduling system and keeping our campus safe.

If you have questions, contact Lisa Leslie at lleslie@georgefox.edu.
