Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Sublimation Printer

Thursday, October 20th, 2022

In need of an awesome gift idea or new art project? Well, the Maker Hub has got you covered!

The Maker Hub’s Sawgrass Sublimation Printer works in conjunction with the mug press and heat press to add any design onto various items, including mugs, signage, bags and apparel. Designs can also be added to many other different materials including ceramics, wood, metal, polyester and glass.

For fabrics, sublimation dye only adheres to polyester. Cotton/polyester blends are OK to use so long as the polyester content is at least 50%. Keep in mind that the sublimation dye will not bond with the cotton, so the resultant image will have a slightly more faded or “vintage” look when using cotton/polyester blends.

Sublimation is a digital printing process that uses heat and pressure to embed ink into a fabric or surface to produce an image. It utilizes a special dye and a molecular bonding process to apply and permanently adhere HD images, graphics and photos to polymers and polyesters at a sub-surface level.

Unlike other printing processes that use chemicals to bond ink to the surface of a product, the sublimation process bonds at a sub-surface level rather than on top, allowing for a high-quality image that will not crack or peel. For more information, visit the Maker Hub’s Wiki Page for the sublimation printer.

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.

Join faculty coffee, public lecture with guest Curtis Chang on Oct. 27

Tuesday, October 18th, 2022

The Cultural Enterprise invites you to hear from author and guest speaker Curtis Chang on Thursday, Oct. 27.  We’ll host a faculty coffee at 3 p.m., during which he’ll discuss his recently published work on the theology of organizations, and a 7 p.m. public lecture on post-partisan faith.

Both events are in Canyon Commons, and refreshments will be served.

Faculty Coffee

Chang makes the provocative claim that human institutions participate in the Imago Dei. He argues that this insight is deeply grounded in Scripture and theology. Moreover, this central insight opens up a range of practical insights and motivations for the organizational life of all Christians, especially those working in “secular” entities.

Come hear Chang share about a robust theology of institutions, and bring your questions and thoughts!

Public Lecture: “When Politics Strains Relationships”

Have political divisions caused tension in the relationships in your family, school, church, work or community? Learn how to become a “post-partisan Christian” and how this new identity can heal our relationships – and hopefully our society. A livestream will be available here.

About Chang

Chang straddles the worlds of secular institutions and theology. As a management consultant, he has won a White House award for social innovation as the founder and head of Consulting Within Reach (CWR), a firm serving nonprofits and government agencies. He also is on the faculty of American University in Washington D.C., where he teaches strategic planning.

As a theologian, Chang is a consulting professor at the Duke Divinity School and is a senior fellow at Fuller Theological Seminary. He currently co-hosts (with David French) the Good Faith podcast, which is ranked in the top 1% of all podcasts.

Contact Sarah Taylor at taylors@georgefox.edu for more information about his visit.
