A farewell reception will be held for Andrea Byerley, assistant director of Disability & Accessibility Services, on Tuesday, April 26, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Murdock Library (Room 101 & 102). A brief time of sharing will begin at 3 p.m.

Explore virtual reality in Canyon Commons on May 6

Are you interested in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality technology? If so, come join us for a virtual reality exhibition in Canyon Commons banquet rooms 102 & 103 on Friday, May 6, from noon to 3 p.m.!

We will be hosting special guest Robert Victorino to share recent implementations of the technology at Portland Community College, followed by the opportunity to try out a variety of VR and AR experiences from our own community.

Come to UREC’s Family Night in Hadlock

This event will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29, and will include full access into the facility, various sports and games (including ladder golf, cornhole, giant Jenga, indoor soccer, and a bow and arrow competition), a movie, and more. Roped climbing on the tall rock wall will be available from 4 to 7 p.m.

Watch and discuss film ‘Of Gods and Men’ tomorrow night

The Film and Ethics event will include a time to discuss how ethical convictions play themselves out in difficult situations, featured in this historical narrative. Spiritual life credit is available for students.

Have boxes? Consider taking them to mailroom for students to use

Does your department have quality boxes? If so, consider giving them to students to pack their belongings for the move home or onward!

Please make sure all boxes are sturdy and either can close completely or have a lid. You can deliver them to the mailroom on the Newberg campus, where students will pick them up free of charge. This is a small but impactful way we can help students Be Known!

Writer’s camp takes kids on a ‘Mission to the Moon’ this summer

The Oregon Writing Project Collaborative and Airway Science for Kids program is hosting a young writer’s camp, with the theme “Mission to the Moon,” this summer.

Students entering grades 5 through 8 are invited to join us the week of July 11-15. Sessions meet from 9 a.m. to noon each day in the Roberts Center. The cost is $125 (needs-based scholarships are available), and children of George Fox alumni receive a $40 discount.

Mark your calendars for Serve Day 2022: Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This annual event mobilizes all undergraduate students and Newberg employees to serve alongside community partners throughout the surrounding region. As an expression of our university mission statement, “to prepare students to serve with passion,” the university will close all Newberg offices and cancel classes so that we may direct our efforts toward serving our community.

The university pastors invite all graduating seniors and their guests to attend the undergraduate Baccalaureate service from 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Friday, April 29, in Bauman Auditorium.

Baccalaureate is the first event of commencement festivities and the final worship service for the graduating class. During this service, we will celebrate God’s work in the lives of our students, hear from our graduates, worship God together, and commission our graduates with prayers of blessing. Attire for the event is business casual.

Wilderness medical courses will be offered at Hadlock in August

In the month of August, University Recreation will be offering two wilderness medical courses open to students, employees and the public (at different rates).

Courses will be taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and backcountry experience, and the certifications are offered through Wilderness Medical Associates International. Anyone who likes to spend significant time outdoors could benefit from one or both of these offerings.
