Please bring in your deposits! If your contract ends soon and/or you will not be on campus through the summer please be sure to bring over any cash or checks before you leave.

Please look around your desks and file cabinets to see if there are any lingering items that need to be deposited. Checks dated prior to June 30, 2023, must be deposited in the current fiscal year.

Bruin Community Pantry announces summer hours for the food bank

The Bruin Community Pantry food bank’s summer hours started on Monday, May 1, and will run through Friday, Aug. 25.

Here are our summer hours:

  • Mondays: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 4-6 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: Noon to 1:30 p.m.; 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 9-11 a.m.
  • Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 4-6 p.m.

We will be closed May 29, June 19 and July 4. If you need access to the food bank outside of these hours, please contact Jere Witherspoon at jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu.

Be aware of construction zones as you walk about campus

You will soon encounter construction work encroaching on the pedestrian walkway that connects the end of the Crisman Crossing bridge to the main campus.

Please follow the designated detour path. Do not cross through caution tape or jump fences, and be very careful walking on uneven surfaces. It is important to stay aware when passing near construction zones. Thank you!

Visa year-end reminder

All George Fox Visa cards will be deactivated on June 1 and will remain unavailable until July 1 when the new fiscal year commences (please contact the Kathi Becker in Purchasing if you require an exception).

Concur reports (Visa transactions and personal reimbursements) for the 2023 fiscal year are required to be submitted by July 15.

Help assemble hanging baskets on May 10

The hanging basket event is back! Learn to make those gorgeous hanging baskets that grace our George Fox quad area. You will learn this valuable lesson on how these beauties are assembled and help us in plant services in the process.

Please join us in the covered lower level of the Thomas Center on Wednesday, May 10. We’ll start at 8 a.m. and go for approximately four hours. You are welcome to join in the class at any time. See you then!

Stress is a normal part of life. Everyone experiences stress, and sometimes that stress can feel overwhelming. Anxiety is your body’s reaction to stress and can occur even if there is no current threat.

You may be at risk for an anxiety disorder if it feels like you can’t manage the stress and if the symptoms of your stress:

  • Interfere with everyday life
  • Cause you to avoid doing things
  • Seem to be always present

Prioritize your mental well-being and focus on what you can control. Learn about these coping and preventive techniques and habits to better handle daily stress.

DPT students seeking candidates for research project

George Fox Doctor of Physical Therapy research students are searching for participants for a research project studying resiliency and drive during exercise. Ideal candidates fit these specifics:

  • Between the ages of 60 and 75 years old
  • Do not have a condition preventing them from exercise
  • Have not had a knee replacement
  • Have a desire to progress science

Hadlock gym floors closed for resurfacing May 5-30

The Hadlock Student Center gym courts will be closed May 5-30 for resurfacing. The fitness center, exercise studios, track, and rental center will remain open during that time, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Join us at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) to hear a research presentation by the Department of Art & Design’s faculty candidate, Lisa Gadinas, in Lemmons 4. It is titled: “The Eye of the Spirit: Caspar David Friedrich, Kosegarten, and the Creative Process.”

Lisa holds a PhD in art history and has taught not only here as an adjunct, but around the Northwest, as well as in Austria and London.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program’s annual Health and Wellness Week returns Monday, May 15. This year we will be offering exercise and nutrition classes. Most will be at the Medical Sciences Building, however our “Pool-A-Palooza” for kids will be at Chehalem Aquatic Center.
