Thank you to the 238 people who have already turned in their yellow benefit enrollment forms. If you’re one of the 231 who have not, Friday (today) is the day. At the very least, please put the forms in campus mail (Box 6108) so you won’t get a phone call Monday afternoon.

Reminder No. 1: if you’re on Pioneer Medical, you’ll want to look up your doctors to make sure they are in the Regence network.

Reminder No. 2: If you have a debit card with your flexible spending account, you must complete the separate request form in your packet in order to re-authorize the card for 2008-09.

Reminder No. 3: Changes in flex amounts will be reflected on your April check, not March.

Thanks for sending in your forms.

Forum discusses new paradigm for education March 19

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Rick Muthiah (Student Life) will present a Faculty Teaching Forum, “From Teaching to Learning — a New Paradigm for Undergraduate Education,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Executive Dining Room.

“The paradigm that has governed our colleges is this: A college is an institution that exists to provide instruction. Subtly but profoundly we are shifting to a new paradigm: A college is an institution that exists to produce learning. This shift changes everything.”

These words, written by Robert Barr and John Tagg in 1995, sparked a discussion that continues across the nation. The March 19 faculty teaching forum will be a discussion about the paradigms described by Barr and Tagg.

Those who would like to read the article ahead of time can access the document through course reserves (http://catalog.georgefox.edu/search/pmut/pmut/1,1,1,B/l962~1255909&FF=pmut&1,1,,0,0). To access it, you must use your university ID barcode. An overview of the article will be provided during the session, so reading the article is not a pre-condition for participation.

To reserve a lunch e-mail Jere Witherspoon (jwithers@georgefox.edu) by 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 17. Everyone is welcome to attend the session, whether bringing a lunch or reserving a lunch.

Benefit election forms due in HR office by March 14

Monday, March 10th, 2008

A reminder to benefit-eligible employees: There are 332 yellow benefit election forms still out there. The deadline to turn them in is this Friday, March 14. Lisa Burton (Human Resources) needs a yellow form back from everyone, especially if you want to continue with the flex plan (please attach a completed flex enrollment for this year) or if you want to change anything about your other benefits (attach change forms as instructed).

If you have medical or dental insurance with the Pioneer plan, you will receive a letter by mail to your home requesting verification of other insurance. Please return that information promptly (whether you have other insurance or not) either by mail or by phone so there will be no delay on your claims.

Please note: The dental plan is not on a different cycle than the medical plans. Even though the university enrolled last July, now is the time to add or drop this plan, not July 2008.

There are new forms and updated information on the HR benefits web pages:
georgefox.edu/offices/hr/EmployeeBenefits.index/beneforms.html.
