Keep an eye on your vision health. Medicare covers a glaucoma screening once every 12 months. If you get a glaucoma test and start treatment early, you may protect your eyes from serious vision loss.
If you think you may be at high risk, talk to your doctor to make sure you’re up to date on your glaucoma screening.
The university community is welcome to a special guest lecture by Warner Pacific University President Brian Johnson at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in Hoover 105. He will present “W.E.B. Du Bois in African American Intellectual and Christian History.”
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, commonly known as W.E.B. Du Bois, was an intellectual, sociologist and civil rights activist whose contributions significantly impacted the African American struggle for equality and justice. Born in 1868, he became the first African American to earn a doctorate from Harvard University. He cofounded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and played a crucial role in advocating for civil rights, racial equality, and education.
Dr. Johnson has received a number of fellowships, including a 2004-2005 non-resident fellowship within the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Studies at Harvard University. That led him to author the biography, W.E.B. Du Bois: Toward Agnosticism, 1868-1934. In the book, Johnson describes the evolution of religious views from Du Bois’s birth until his resignation as editor of Crisis magazine in 1934.
Dr. Johnson is a sought-after speaker, accomplished professor, scholar and academic administrator. He serves as the first minority president in Warner Pacific University’s 83-year history. To learn more, visit this page.
Austin Smith, a doctoral candidate in Baylor University’s Higher Education Studies and Leadership program, is looking for students to participate in a research study about campus traditions and their relation to culture at Christian colleges and universities.
For this study, Austin will be coming to our campus from Feb. 27 to March 1 to conduct voluntary focus groups with students as well as interviews with faculty and staff.
Participation is open to any student who has been at the institution for at least one full academic year, and will consist of participating in a focus group that should last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. He will be providing snacks as an expression of his gratitude for offering up your time.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is conducting a research study, and we’re looking for research participants!
The study will compare the effects of two peak exercise tests for individuals aged 60 to 90. These tests consist of a one-minute sit-to-stand test and a 30-second Wingate bicycle test. We will also be assessing blood lactate levels via finger prick testing to compare between the two tests.
Testing availability will begin Friday, Feb. 23, and will be scheduled per student and participant availability, typically on weekdays, with an emphasis on Friday mornings. If you would like to be considered for this study, please click this link to be taken to a Google intake form.

Today is our Monday @ Fox visit day. Most high school students do not have school due to the President’s Day holiday, and we are expecting about 100 visitors to be on campus as a result.
Prospective students will participate in a campus tour, visit classes, eat lunch on campus, and tour academic departments of interest. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is asking students and employees to help make visitors feel the Be Known promise during their time on campus.

Remember to sign up for the upcoming donor-funded scholarship application workshop, hosted by the Office of Financial Aid and the Academic Resource Center!
The workshop will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) in the ARC (Murdock Library, first floor) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. There will be a total of 24 individual appointments offered (15 minutes each) for traditional undergraduate students. You must sign up for an appointment in person at the ARC front desk. The deadline to sign up is today (Monday), and no drop-ins will be accepted during the workshop.
You will need to bring a laptop to your appointment. While ARC staff are happy to help you brainstorm your answers, it is best to have a rough draft ready so they can help you with content editing, proofreading, and clarity.
Students who have already completed their applications may edit their answers and resubmit, and are eligible to sign up for this event. All students who initially submitted applications by Feb. 15 will still remain in the Early-Bird Scholarship drawing, even if they resubmit after the early-bird deadline.
If you are unable to attend the event, but still want to work with an ARC consultant, you may schedule an appointment during their normal office hours. The final deadline to apply for our donor-funded scholarships is March 1.
