Read and fellowship with The Lewis and Tolkien Society tonight

All are welcome to join in with The Lewis and Tolkien Society this evening (Monday), for reading, fellowship, tea, and cookies! We will gather in the Pennington House conference room from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Come explore the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and maybe a sprinkling of influential writers who inspired them! Meetings will occur every other Monday.

Be aware of sidewalk and Wheeler west entrance closure this Monday

Due to city of Newberg exploratory work, the sidewalk and the upper entrance of Wheeler on the west side will be closed this Monday, Sept. 25, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The access gate to the football field by Wheeler will also be locked for the day. Please follow the detour signs and enter and exit through the east lower entrance of Wheeler.

Bruin Preview, the largest visit event of the fall, is coming up at the end of October (Oct. 26-27), and the admissions office is looking for current students to help with overnight hosting!

The Amazing Race is tonight (Friday)! Starting at 7 p.m. in front of Stevens, race through Newberg gathering clues to make it to the finish line!

Short research study is seeking participants of all fitness levels

Want to be a part of a research study with a minimal time commitment? Join our short study testing sprinting performance at different times of day!

All fitness levels are encouraged; we want your contribution to our study! Find out whether your theories of when you work out best are correct, and earn potential extra credit (especially kinesiology students) at the discretion of your instructor.

Are you interested in studying abroad?

The Center for Study Abroad is hosting a study abroad fair on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Canyon Commons. Many of our off-campus programs will have representatives present, so come by to get information about different programs and countries and their requirements.

We will also be passing out information about the Center for Study Abroad application requirements and due dates, and there will be a prize drawing of $500 toward a study abroad program of your choice for those who attend and participate.

Serve by splitting and stacking for wood ministry on Saturdays

As we head into the colder months, join us in helping our neighbors keep their fireplaces burning by splitting and stacking firewood. Head to Helper Helper (the app you used for Serve Day) for more information and to sign up for our first opportunity this Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

If you are in need of transportation, we will be meeting at the spiritual life office (Barclay House) at 8:30 a.m. Otherwise, the address is 500 S. Everest Road in Newberg. This will be an ongoing opportunity, and you can find the rest of the dates on the app. Elective chapel credit will be offered.

Help create an unforgettable night by volunteering at Night to Shine tomorrow

Looking for a way to get out and serve God and his children? Consider volunteering at Night to Shine tomorrow night (Friday). If you are available, we have a great opportunity for you to serve.

Night to Shine, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, is a formal dance night where special needs individuals can come and have the time of their life. They get a buddy date and kinds of cool activities (dinner, dancing, limousine ride, karaoke, photo shoot, and more).

Northwest Christian Church, as well as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), is asking for your help in making this night happen. You can sign up using this link. When you access the link, make sure to click “Volunteer at Shine” not “Register for Shine.”

All are invited to see Richard Foster present award next Thursday

Come see renowned Christian author, teacher and alumnus Richard J. Foster present an award in his name to pastor and fellow author Joshua Choonmin Kang next Thursday, Sept 28, at 7 p.m.

The presentation in Canyon Commons will be followed by Kang’s lecture, “Deep-Rooted in Christ,” and a reception. Kang will also speak at chapel earlier that day at 10:50 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

A selection committee selected Kang as the 2023 recipient of the Richard J. Foster Award in Spiritual Formation. The award recognizes those whose intellectual and practical work helps others come into an ongoing transformational relationship with Jesus Christ. Kang is the founding pastor of New Life Vision Church in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles, and the author of more than 80 books in Korean, including Solitude of a Leader, with over 1.5 million copies in print.

Memorial Service for Dealous L. Cox to be held on Friday

Longtime George Fox University Board member and former chair, Dealous (“Dea”) Cox, passed away on Friday. His memorial service will be held at Reedwood Friends Church (website at this link) this Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m., with viewing hours beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Reedwood will provide lunch for those present. All are welcome. Graveside will be held at the Newberg Friends Cemetery at 3 p.m. 

The address to Reedwood Friends Church is 2901 S.E. Steele St., in Portland.
