  • Training/Camp Dates: July 12-28
  • We will pay for housing and food
  • $1,500 compensation

Survey: Walk for Water

For our Business Communications class, we are putting on a Walk for Water event at 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 8, to raise money and awareness for the communities in Africa who do not have access to safe, clean drinking water.

To help our team, it would be greatly appreciated if you could spare a few minutes to fill out a five-question survey. By filling this survey out, it will help us to get a better understanding of the interest in our community.

Don’t forget to register for ‘Focused Acceptance & Commitment Therapy’ event

The university community is invited to the Interprofessional Primary Care Institute’s “Focused Acceptance & Commitment Therapy” event May 9-11.

Both in-person and Zoom sessions will be hosted, with Tuesday’s event taking place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and both Wednesday’s and Thursday’s meetings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sessions will feature Dr. Patricia Robinson and Dr. Kirk Strosahl, founders of Focused Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and internationally renowned psychologists.

This CME is an excellent cross-training opportunity in behavioral theory and practice for the medical, dental, pharmacy and nursing professions.

Chapel site work continues today

Tuesday, April 4th, 2023

Site work for the new chapel commences today (Wednesday). Large trucks will be entering and exiting via North Street.

There are four crosswalks along North Street. Please cross North Street at a crosswalk, where drivers are expecting you to cross the street. Stop and look before crossing. Make sure that the truck driver sees you before crossing the street (i.e. make eye contact). Do not walk inside barricaded areas. Be alert and stay safe.

Wheeler access:

  • To access Wheeler from the east side of campus, use the Wheeler bridge
  • To access Wheeler from the west side of campus, cross North Street at a crosswalk, then use the sidewalk from the Alumni Plaza

North Street Annex access:

  • Do not use the doors off North Street. Use the doors on the southwest corner of the building, off the plaza area
  • Do not park by the North Steet Annex

Klages is reserved on Friday morning for special Bruin Preview event

George Fox is hosting an admitted student event during Bruin Preview this Friday, April 7, in Klages. As this area is reserved, we ask that you please clear Klages prior to 8:30 a.m. It will reopen at 10:30 a.m.

Decorations will be put up on Thursday, April 6, in preparation for the morning event. Please leave the décor alone and be respectful of the space. The Maker’s Market will be open. Please use the entrance near the Bruin Bookstore to enter.

Hear from two community leaders making a difference this Monday

There are many ways to help people use their different perspectives as gifts for building local communities. Meet two women taking distinctly different approaches and making a difference: Cindy Cosenzo (Just Create Community of Hillsboro, Oregon) and Josie Newport (Citizens4Community of Sisters, Oregon).

They will be part of a George Fox Civility Project-organized event, “Building Healthy Political Civility in Local Communities: Two Oregon Models,” taking place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this Monday, April 10, in Hoover 105.

Join card-making event tonight to show gratitude to firefighters

Join us tonight (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. in Hoover 103 for a special service project where we will be creating cards to show our gratitude to our local firefighters!

This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community and show our appreciation for the brave men and women who risk their lives to keep us safe.

We encourage everyone to come and participate, regardless of age or artistic ability. The cards can be as simple or as creative as you like, and we will have plenty of supplies on hand to help you bring your ideas to life.

Let’s come together as a community and show our firefighters how much we value their service. We hope to see you there!

Apply now to be a Mosaic or first-generation program mentor

Are you interested in being a resource and guide to future Mosaic or first-generation incoming freshmen for the 2023-24 academic year? If so, please submit an application to be a mentor for either the Mosaic (Mosaic Scholarship recipients) or the LEAD (first-generation students) mentorship programs, which are part of the Intercultural Resource Center (IRC).

If you believe you do not consider yourself a Mosaic Scholar or a first-generation student, but are a student of color, that is great! You can still apply through the Mosaic Mentorship Program!

Apply now, as the deadline to do so is 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11!

Learn more about racial and social disparities in the criminal justice system this Friday

Please join the College of Social Work for our next justice event, in which we will discuss racial and social disparities in the criminal justice system. The session will run from 1 to 3 p.m. this Friday, April 7, in Hoover 105.

Our speaker will be Dr. Diomaris E. Safi, PsyD, who is the founder and director of the Social Justice in Clinical Neuropsychology Program at UCLA-Hispanic Neuropsychiatric Center of Excellence. She will cover contemporary social issues and interdisciplinary career opportunities and practices.

Sign up now for Saturday’s basketball and volleyball tournaments

Sign up for the All-Stars Tournament on IMLeagues for a full-day experience of fun and competitive sports! This tournament is a student-led project held on the Hadlock basketball courts.

The tournament will take place at 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 8, and has the potential to last three to four hours, depending on team registrations. Your exact game time will be given on IMLeagues (times will vary depending on the sport).

Sign up for one or both sports! Go here for basketball and here for volleyball.

This tournament will be played in a round-robin format in which each team will get a chance to play multiple amounts of games; the best teams will compete in a championship bracket. This is a highly competitive tournament, so we encourage those with past sports experience to join the fun!
