Survey: Affordable Meals for College Students

Monday, October 17th, 2022

Hello! We are a group of college students seeking to provide affordable meal plans to college students. Through this program, we hope we’ll be able to provide people with healthy recipes that will be tailored to their lifestyles as well as the prices and locations of the ingredients.

We are seeking feedback from college students of all demographics about how we can best go about this project. If you are interested in the idea or would like your voice to be heard, we would love to hear what you have to say via our survey!

Contact Aidan Randall at arandall21@georgefox.edu with any questions.

Important midterm grades information

Thursday, October 13th, 2022

Midterm grades provide an accurate picture of your academic progress so far this semester. The last day to withdraw from a class without a graded responsibility for a class you may be struggling in is Sunday, Nov. 6.

This means that if you withdraw from a class, your transcript will show W. If you do not withdraw now and ultimately do not pass a course, your GPA will suffer.

If your professor has not yet given you a midterm grade, please contact them right away to find out where you stand in that course. Information regarding withdrawing from a class can be found here on the registrar office’s website.

Students who received a D or an F on their midterms should contact their CAP coach as soon as possible to discuss the consequences of withdrawing from a class. If a student withdraws from a class, they should also contact their CAP coach to discuss their class schedule for future semesters. Follow this link to contact the CAP coaches.

Maker Hub’s ’Tool Tip Friday’: Monarch metal lathe

Thursday, October 13th, 2022

When looking at the Maker Hub’s Monarch metal lathe, it may not be entirely clear as to what it actually does. A lathe is a machine that rotates a workpiece on an axis to perform various operations such as boring, sanding, knurling (creating angles or crossed lines on a workpiece), drilling, facing (removing material from the end of a workpiece), and turning.

This is accomplished by using a stationary tool that is applied to the work piece to remove material. The lathe creates an object that is symmetrical to the axis of rotation it was rotated about.

Students commonly use the metal lathe to create flywheels for their wobbler engines.

Watch this video to see how it works! Check out the Maker Hub’s Wiki page for more information.

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.
