COVID-19 coding reminder from Finance

Thursday, November 18th, 2021

Until further notice, we are continuing to track COVID-19-related expenses. For all purchases made that relate to the COVID-19 pandemic, please enter “COVID-19” in the “chartfield1” field when coding transactions.

Expenses would include personal protection equipment like masks, signage for keeping distance, cleaning equipment, computer software, etc.

This includes all payment methods, including, but not limited to: purchase requisitions, invoices, check request form, Concur reports, expense reports, and petty cash vouchers.

Only one “chartfield1” can be used per transaction, and the COVID-19 code must take priority over another department designation.

Questions? Call Lael May (lmay@georgefox.edu) in Finance at ext. 2170.

Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Vacuum Former

Thursday, November 18th, 2021

Did you know that the Maker Hub has a vacuum former? Our Formech 508DT Vacuum Former is a plastic molding machine that utilizes heat and a vacuum to stretch heated plastic over a mold.

While there are some limitations on the shape and size, the vacuum former is great for thin plastic molds. The maximum dimensions for molds are 17”x19” with a depth of 7.3″. The maximum thickness for the plastic sheet is 0.25″.

These molds can be made from many types of materials. It is most common to see molds made from wood. Check out this video to see how the top of a quadcopter drone is made with the vacuum former.

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.

Announcement about laundry machine maintenance process

Thursday, November 18th, 2021

If you live on campus, please read through these brief details so that you know what action steps to take if you encounter a problem with a washer or dryer.

If the issue you are experiencing is an emergency (i.e., there is active smoke, a fire, or a constant leak of water), please call Campus Public Safety (503-554-2090). They will assist in determining if there is a safety issue present that needs to be addressed immediately.
