Please email Laura King at 1478mgr@follett.com if there are titles being used later. Thank you!

Monday, November 8th, 2021

Do you worry about polarization in our nation? If so, here’s your chance to make a difference!

We are completing the first step toward creating a tool that measures civility in politicians, and we need your help. Ultimately, we want people to be able to have a tool that can be used in real-time political debates and speeches to measure a candidate’s civility. But first, we need you to take this short survey.

Thank you for helping us!

Here are a few reminders about thermostats

Sunday, November 7th, 2021

Are you enjoying the fall weather? If your on-campus housing is too cold, did you know that you (or your RA) have control of the thermostats in your area?

Please contact your RA if you’re unsure where your thermostat is located or if you don’t know how to adjust the temperature in your living space. The RA can place a work order with Plant Services if the thermostat creating a heat request is unresponsive. Ask your RA if you don’t know where the heat source (vent or radiator) is located in the room.

Some helpful things to keep in mind:

  • Leaving a window open with the heat on may create problems with regulating heat for a space, so keep the windows closed if the heat is on.
  • Close and lock your windows before leaving your room for safety and for comfort.
  • Temperatures take time to raise or lower, so adjust the heat settings in small increments.
  • Don’t set the thermostat control higher than the temperature desired.
  • Covering a thermostat will restrict its ability to accurately detect the temperature in the room, so keep the area around the thermostat clear. (Don’t hang anything from or over the thermostat.)
  • Don’t block heat registers. Don’t place a dresser or cabinet on top of the vent, and make sure furniture does not block vents located on the floor or wall.
  • Keep flammable materials such as paper and fabric away from hot surfaces (like a radiator).

Plant Services wants you to be comfortable and safe. Thank you!

If you have any questions, contact Dixie Downey at ddowney@georgefox.edu.

‘Companioning Our Shadow: Emotions & Relationships’ available via Zoom on Nov. 12

Sunday, November 7th, 2021

Did you miss the last “Companioning Our Shadow: Emotions & Relationships” course? If so, Michael Simmons is offering this course again via Zoom on Friday, Nov. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Michael is a spiritual director, retreat facilitator, and serves on the leadership team with Companioning Center on the board of Deep Water, a local community that provides tools, processes, and sacred spaces for women and men to heal. He is a doctoral student at Portland Seminary and is an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church.

Course info: Psychologist Carl Jung coined the term “shadow” to refer to the parts of ourselves we hide, repress, or deny. Robert Bly called the shadow “the long bag we drag behind us.” We place all that would cause us pain and conflict into the bag, but it still holds incredible power to transform our lives, relationships and communities.

This course will be a space to invite Christ to meet our hidden parts and deepen that process of healing. Join Michael as he explores and practices tools for companioning our shadow, particularly around our emotions and relationships.

The cost for attending the course is $39, and participants can register here.

If you have any questions, email Michael Simmons at msimmons@georgefox.edu
