“Libcheck” Bookmarklet: One-Click Access to Library Resources

If you often do your research from off-campus, we recommend you install the “Libcheck” proxy bookmarklet on your browser’s bookmarks toolbar. The bookmarklet lets you log into the off-campus proxy service without having to always start from the Libraries website.

Installation Instructions

View installation

Create a bookmark manually on a touch device or other browser:

  • Create a bookmark but make sure the URL includes the following code instead of a web address:

javascript:void(location.href=%22https://georgefox.idm.oclc.org/login?url=%22+location.href)

You might see a security alert that the “favorite may not be safe”, although it is. Click “yes” to continue.

Notes:

  • The bookmarklet is compatible with most web browsers and platforms as long as your bookmarks or favorites allow javascript.
  • If the links toolbar is not visible in your browser, you can try to enable it under the View > Toolbars menu

How To Use the Libcheck Bookmarklet

  1. Navigate to a database or webpage that is George Fox-restricted (example).
  2. Click on the Libcheck bookmarklet in your browser’s toolbar.
  3. Enter your MyGeorgeFox credentials if required
  4. You’ll now be viewing the page through the library’s proxy server, and hopefully can see the full text of the article. If not, just request access through interlibrary loan.

  • In some cases you may need to use the browser’s “Back” button to return to the resource URL, not the vendor’s login/error page.
  • Licensed content is provided by a number of vendors and some content may not be purchased directly from the source you are using. In this case you will need to start from the Libraries website or catalog to see if we have access to this resource.
