The music department of George Fox is one with a long history, dating back to 1923. That was the year that the students came together and formed the student orchestra, which was later integrated into the college itself. This was the beginning of the long history of students being heavily involved in the music department. The orchestra worked closely with the community, with collaboration with local bands such as The Hulls. The choir was at the forefront of George Fox Music in the 1950s, with the choir gaining enough acclaim by the 1960s that they could go on a tour to raise funds for missions trips.
The music programs at George Fox tended to work closely with the theatre department to create the musical theatre productions here, which were by and large well received by the student population. The music department also worked to create the madrigal dinner, a dinner event with a medieval theme.
