Wheeler Sports Center and Miller Gymnasium

Wheeler Sports Center was dedicated on October 17th, 1977 along with the Hoover Academic Building and Macy and Sutton Resident Halls. In 1979, 4,250 feet were added to the upper level of the building, this added more classrooms and the weight room. The gymnasium inside the building seats 2,700 people and has 3 basketball courts, 2 racquetball courts, and 3 volleyball courts. The rest of the building houses a dance room, a weight room, locker rooms, and offices for the Athletic Department.

The sports complex is named after Coleman H. Wheeler, who was chairman of the board of Willamette Industries, and was a frequent contributor to the university.
Miller Gymnasium is named after James Miller and his wife Lila. James was a George Fox board member for 21 years and the president of Cascadia Lumber Company, which was a leading lumber company in Oregon. James and Lila were the first major contributors for the new building’s construction process.
