NEWBERG, Ore. – Affinity reunions, a tailgate party and football game, and reunions for the classes of 2009 and 1999 are among the events planned for George Fox University’s annual homecoming celebration Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21.

The event begins with three events Friday – an invitation for guests to participate in the new Theology 101 course (11 a.m.), a Classic Bruins Supper (5-7 p.m.) for those who graduated in 1969 or before, and a free music concert (7:30 p.m.) featuring a wide repertoire performed by the university’s faculty members.

On Saturday, the day includes campus tours (4 and 4:30 p.m.), a seminar highlighting George Fox’s William Penn Honors Program (1-3 p.m.), an invitation to attend an Alumni Association Board meeting (1-2:30 p.m.), and a tailgate party, featuring affinity booths, that leads up to the evening football game against Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. In addition, individual class reunions for the classes of 2009 and 1999 will take place from 3 to 5 p.m., and a special gathering of alumni from the classes of 1962 through 1965 is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration for the events is required; however, there is no cost to attend most events. Alumni can also secure two free tickets to the football game with their registration, and those who stop by the Alumni Association’s tent will receive a free limited-edition George Fox T-shirt.

Specific details and registration links are available at homecoming.georgefox.edu.

In a departure from past years, the university opted to move a few of its affinity events to other weekends to better accommodate visitors. Among them is the Sports Hall of Fame celebration, scheduled for Oct. 11-12, and an Alumni of Color reception and networking event, set for February of 2020.

George Fox University is ranked by Forbes among the top Christian universities in the country and is a Christian college classified by U.S. News & World Report as a “Best Regional University.” More than 4,000 students attend classes on the university’s campus in Newberg, Ore., and at teaching centers in Portland, Salem and Redmond, Ore.
