George Fox University hosts 2019 spring commencement ceremonies

Greg Lutze, cofounder of VSCO, to speak at undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 4

NEWBERG, Ore. – More than 900 undergraduate, adult degree and graduate-level students will receive diplomas in commencement ceremonies planned at George Fox University this spring.

The school will host its traditional undergraduate ceremony at the school’s Stoffer Family Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. A total of 499 traditional undergraduate students will receive bachelor’s degrees at the event.

In addition, the university’s graduate-level programs and adult degree programs will each host combined commencement/hooding ceremonies for graduates at various times and locations, most of which will take place on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4. Details on when and where they will be are available at commencement.georgefox.edu.

All told, 381 students will earn graduate-level degrees from the university’s masters, doctoral and education specialist programs. Another 50 adult degree program students and 499 traditional undergraduates will receive bachelor’s degrees, bringing the total number of graduates to 930.

Alumnus Greg Lutze, cofounder and chief experience officer at VSCO, a photography mobile app for iOS and Android devices, will serve as commencement speaker. A 2000 graduate of George Fox, Lutze has been recognized by the Grammy Awards, Graphic Design USA, Taschen, and Communication Arts. He has mentored several George Fox students in graphic arts and provided powerful guidance to the team of students who undertook a complete redesign and rebranding of the George Fox yearbook.

VSCO has been named Apple’s “App of the Year,” Google Play’s “Best Apps of 2015” and Fast Company’s “Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Social Media.” In 2018, it surpassed 1 million paid users, making it one of the fastest-growing subscription-based businesses in the world.

Prior to founding VSCO, Lutze was a creative director for design agencies in Seattle and New York, as well as an art director for Microsoft’s Xbox team.
