Family Weekend events include athletic contests, academic lectures, a campus tour, a tailgate party, a concert and a theatrical performance

NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University invites families of current students to visit campus for a weekend of activities that include athletic contests, a tailgate party, a music performance, campus and student center tours, and academic lectures Oct. 19-21.

Though families are welcome to visit their student any time during the academic year, this weekend is set aside for families and students to reconnect and have fun together.

Events Friday include a series of academic lectures, a parent networking open house hosted by the school’s IDEA Center (career and academic coaching), a tour of the newly opened Hadlock Student Center, a parent prayer time, a concert featuring a combination of vocal and instrumental ensembles, and a performance of the comedy The Government Inspector by the university’s theatre department.

Saturday’s schedule includes a football game against Northwest Conference rival Linfield at 1:30 p.m., a tailgate party prior to the game, a Family Weekend dinner, and a family game night. The day will also include morning and afternoon campus tours that highlight how Scripture has impacted the meaning behind the places and buildings across campus, tours of the Hadlock Student Center, and another performance of The Government Inspector.

The weekend concludes Sunday with men’s and women’s soccer games against Willamette in the afternoon and another Hadlock Student Center tour. The student center – a 48,000-square-foot facility featuring a fitness center, a climbing wall, three basketball/volleyball courts, an elevated track, group fitness rooms, and offices for student activities – opened this fall.
